I got some pretty bad news today. It seems as though I may have to go through back surgery, again. This means that I would not be able to get in and out of my new CLK500. My car stickered for over $61,000. I am considering giving it to my fiancee but am also considering selling it. Do you think I will lose any money- or would I be able to re-coup even the tax????? I have only put 250 miles on it and I love it. This is def. a move I didn't want to make. Any advice would be great.

Sad to hear the news, Benzo. These cars tend to sell on mileage as opposed to model year, so I would recommend keeping it absent being layed up a long time.
My bet is that there will be slight increase in wait over the next couple months (not like the w208), which should bode well for a "hold" strategy.

feel better man... I've had back problems and avoided surgery at a couple points (deferred to cortizone injections and live with a degree of discomfort). Sometimes I guess it can't be avoided.
Wouldn't worry about the car, especially in Florida. Heck, if mine didn't come in the first day, I'd be thrilled to get yours (you might recall they are identical). Here in Ft. Laud they talk of an 18 mo. wait for the CLK500; so probably no problem. Only thing, there's no luxury or gas tax next year, so if you're going to sell it (not a preferred route), you'd probably have a better case of offsetting those costs (I think that's what you ask) sooner than later. The buyer who wants one now won't worry about the 1500 or so in extra combined taxes; that won't be there next year though.
In terms of a 'used' available CLK500, they're trying to get about 5 over here, or about 68,000 on a loaded one. I think they got it too. That would be plus taxes; so if you have to sell it, and that color (ideal), I would think your dealer could get you out of it with ease and maybe make a buck or two, if they are so inclined (no way do they have many black/charcoal cars available, if at all).

Thats great news. Thanks both for your input. We just bought my fiancee a new car and it would take a huge hit if we sold it. (Denali) So I am in the process of selling mine. I simply want to get what I paid for it. (including taxes) If people are selling them for 68 then I should have no problems. Again, thanks for your help. If anyone knows someone who would be interested, please let me know.

ps Stockseer, I wish it was as simple as a shot. Unfortunately I had my L5s1 removed already and part of my spine. Now it seems as though the L4 is bulging out causing numness in my left foot. NO FUN. I have gone thorugh this once and rehad is a doozie.

Sorry about the back,I had an MRI done recently and they found 2 herniated discs in my cervical spine with 2 more buldging and 2 herniated in my lower back with 3 buldging. I been doing lots of exercise and physical therapy plus taking glucosamine/chondrotin complex everyday. Pain can be a real drag but I try to block it out.I guess all the off shore power boating I used to do in high seas and lots of golf did a number on me,but I'm determined to play golf again real soon! PS Never had neck pain until the Chiropracter did 2 adjustments on my neck...never again!
Anyway put an ad in the Dupont Registry with a good picture and reaon for sale and your car should be sold quickly and you can ask a good price for it as people on waiting lists may jump on it. I'm in S Florida and I know there are people looking to avoid the list.

Hi Benzo... my the way, I'm using the chrondritin complex too, and my doc actually thinks it helps a bit. Do feel better!
As to the car, I stopped in at MB Ft. Laud. today and actually mentioned yours to Peter McInnis (my sales guy) who thought it would not be hard to get your $ out of it if you want. They have none available now (a few E's around) and he said that mine was being asked about just in the 5 minutes I was there. (In front but not for sale.. well, I suppose anything is for a price..haha)
Anyway, not sure if we're allowed to put sales guys emails here (probably not), but if that's the story here, it probably is in Tampa and if not you could sure call or email him... Thanks to all of you for your kind words... I have listed the veehicle on ebay. I am not sure how much success I will have selling it- but I can tell you that I don't want to. If anyone knows of anyone who may be able to hekp me sell the car, please do email me. Again. I appreciate all the kind words and will keep you all posted. :p
