And another thing -

Do you think there is a 19 year old college guy out there that wouldn't drive a new $65,000 car if he could?

"No Dad.. I don't care what you say.. I'm not driving the CLK500. I want a Saturn!!"

likuidM5, mind if I ask how the guys in Huntington treated you and what kind of deal you got? I checked out Rallye and those guys are a buncha thieving bastidges...Manhattan Mercedes gave me a decent quote but I would up getting my 320 from Helms Bros. Decent deal, I think but unfortunately, no heated seats and no Command system. I couldn't hold onto my SLK for 3 months to get all that. I hope you get the car soon, so far I'm happy with my 320 other than a few annoyances.

They've treated me like a teenager. I mean obviously my salesman can't give me information that he doesn't have, but since May.. I've had nothing but frustration from them. At every step in the game, I've known considerably more about the car - and the Mercedes Benz company in general that its really baffling. It made me wonder what their hiring requirements are. Probably not much more than a pulse and a decent haircut.

I went to Rallye, and they were charging heavy premiums on the cars. AND - they didn't have COMAND. Soo, I told them no thanks. Glad you like your car.

Hehe - now that's the kind of encouragement I need to be hearing!!

I really hate to come off as a spoiled kid who is pissed off his $65,000 car isn't gonna be here for 2 days. I'm just pissed off that the car is complicating me going back to school. I'm basing how I get back to school on whether or not I have my car, and I'm not going to know until the day before I've gotta get back. I'm not pissed off its coming in 2 days. Hell - if it was here in 2 weeks - I wouldn't mind. Just as long as I knew the exact day it was coming! But I'm not upset.. I know all good things will be worth waiting for, and when I'm cruisin' around in the 500 - everything will be cool

You can't blame them too much there. Age has a lot to do with being taken seriously, unfortunately. i was 25 when I got my SLK and if I didn't beat down the saleswoman, she would've ripped me off blind because she just figured I was some spoilt rich kid. She didn't know that I'd already been working for 4 years saving money for this car.

Be happy they at least require the decent haircut. Most other dealerships don't even require that! The guys at BMW were even less competent than the MB guys.

Rallye is a total rip off. The were charging List + 3K for the 320 with no options.

Encouragement? you feeling ok? College girls are incredibly...how should I say this..."willing", once they see a decent lookin' guy in a hot car.

Ah, don't worry about it. My dad gave me his 92 300E to drive in '96 since I started working up North. Before that, I drove like once a month and never needed a car. Just don't forget to appreciate your parents for giving you all they have and be humble. Don't listen to some morons about how you're "a spoiled rich kid".

Good luck with the car and post some pics when you get it!

I'll say it again......if any person says that they would turn down money or a new car (whether its a Hyundai or a Benz) if offered to them as a gift is totally full of crap. Any person who makes negative comments about someone getting something free of charge from a parent/grandparent/dog/etc is just flat out jealous (plain and simple), not to mention its really obvious.

The fact is, there will always be people with more than you and there will always people with less.

likuid, I hope you get your car soon.

Thanks a lot guys.. I'm really so glad that I've got an outlet to talk to people about such a big thing I'm looking forward to. I talk to my familiy about it a lot - but when it comes to my friends, I really try not to bring it up much, as it would come off as bragging. I know the car will be here any day, and next week, I'll be able to read back on my whining posts with a smirk on my face. I promise to let everyone know as soon as I get the car, and will assault you guys with pictures!!

Heh. I'm going to college in Savannah and I can't decide whether to get a CLK cabrio once it comes out, or a new E class. Likuid, make sure you tell us how it works with the girls, as thats a good factor in which to choose... convertible or sedan... on the plus side the sedan does have more space for said females, but if its a hard top convertible, its a hard top convertible...

Speaking of which, has anyone heard anymore about the convertible version?

Good for you Liquid. What I like is that you are enthusiastic about the car. What would realy **** me off is some "spoilt" kid getting given the car and taking it for granted.

androza, the convertible will definitely work better with the ladies (not to say that a coupe doesn't). my old SLK drew so much attention, at times I would feel odd. Eventhough there was no room in the car, you get creative and manage pretty well with the ladies in even a 2 seater ;-)

Well - its Saturday.. the day before I go back to college.. and SURPRISE! No car. I called them this morning, and they told me that no CLK500's arrived today. Soooo, I'll be flying to Boston tomorrow as my means of getting back to school.

Since they're closed Sunday and then Monday for the holiday, its going to be a few days yet before I get the car. Oh well.. I'm really gonna just try my hardest to not think about it, so when it comes, it'll be a pleasent suprise.

Take a cold shower everytime you start thinking of it. On the plus side, you'll be really clean.

Does anyone know whether it would be cheaper to get a car in Georgia or Connecticut? I know CT is ritzier and probably has a higher tax. It would also probably have a longer waiting list. Hmmmm...

Where in CT? The ritzy part of CT is Fairfield County and the sales tax is 6%. Which state would the car be registered in GA or CT? You pay the sales tax of the state the car is registered in not the state it's purchsed in. As far as the wait it all depends on which model you want. You can get CLK320's fairly quickly, but the CLK500 is about a 5-6 month wait. Saturday I visited a dealership in Danbury CT and they had two 320's in stock, black and silver.

I live in Milford, which is in New Haven county, right near Fairfield county. Milford, like Fairfield, is a weekend home area for wealthy new workers. It would be registered in Georgia since I'd be living there most of the year.

UPDATE

Well.. its been 2 weeks now that I've been told "any day now - it literally could be here tomorrow!" by my salesman. I hope he rots. I guess on the bright side, I got word from some dude that there's a big shipment of cars coming in next Tuesday/Wednesday - so I'm hoping it'll be on there.

On a side note, college is great so far.. sophmore year is going to rip it.. I just feel stupid telling the 20 people who've asked me where my car was that it should be here now but my dealer's been stickin' it to me.

Hey... you probably want the CLK (either) for the gals... and for yourself... my friend got the new E500 Sport, and while pretty good, it rides hard (even when in not sport mode) compared to the CLK (to my surprise). And they're going to get a ton of 'em as it's a mainstream MB revenue product. There will be more of an exclusive tone to the CLK (even though more of those will come) of course, and it's more sporty than comparing just 2 or 4 doors.

Very happy with the CLK500..only think it could use is the red light in the door (has one under, but not rear-facing)... wouldn't want a 4 door basically, but that's me. Though the CLK has the single (larger) exhaust, it seems 'throatier' in sound side-by-side with the new E. Just thoughts...

You should be asking for the VIN number which I think should have been available from the time the car was built and before it is shipped. That might keep your salesman honest.

Hello guys.

I've been at collge for a week now, and I haven't really been checking up daily on my car's status. I heard today from my dad that my car is currently at the dealership in New York.. and that I will be home this weekend to pick it up.
