This setup should work on all cars. It was a very simple setup. I took my father for a ride today (he has an SL55) and he was totally blown away by the sound. Then when I switched it back to normal he said that this is one of the few mods I did that actually makes sense (the other nice mod is the rims lol).

Sorry for the late response, I'm out of the country right now.
Yeah, the resonator is cut out. I actually had this valve welded in right where the resonator would be.

I Installed a QTP (quick time performance) electric cut-out yesterday on my CLK 500 at my buddies house. I see that you installed it in place of the resonator.
I did not out it there for a few reasons:
1) with resonator out, drowning will occour at highway speeds.
2) As you said, it is really close to the ground and is an issue for clearance
3) There is no real place for the exhaust gasses to go
I installed mine after the resonator between the rear wheels. where there is a hanger for the rear part of the exhaust. (we replaced the hanger on the cutout.
Sorry to say, but it is NO WHERE NEAR a Cobra w/ straight pipes. I've heard a corba w/straight pipes at the track and it'll make your ears bleed. I've asked a few friends, that know their fair share about cars, and we all agree it is a little louder than a C5 Z06 Corvette.
Some time in the next few weeks i'll be gutting the secondary cats in the exhaust system to free it up a little more.

Total for me was around 300 dollars.
200 for the cutout, 100 for the edigital electronic control unit (optional)
Did the work at my friends house, i know how to weld.
At most a shop should charge no more than 150 to put it together.
And yes, just the flip of a switch and your exhaust goes back to stock.

you wouldn't need a quad since you just have quad tips and not 4 pipes coming from the engine. At most you have dual exhaust like an E55. I have a CLK 500 and i used 1 cut-out.

Yup, it was around $300 installed. I was rolling with my friend who has a straight-piped late 90's cobra...Idk man, it sounded pretty close. The cobra was definitely louder but this was right up there. He was impressed.
And yeah, this is great for cops lol.
I don't see why it wouldn't pass inspection? As long as you keep the valve shut it shouldn't affect anything. Even with the valve open it should pass smog regs (if you have it after the cats).

or as in just no muffler?
How is the ground clearance working out for you?

Should have clarified, I meant fake straight pipes lol. No muffler but stock headers, cats, etc.
Clearance is bareable, it does slightly hit on some speed bumps.

I was afraid of that clearance issue, I'll get a pic of mine up here in a day or two.

Hey guys,
I just picked up a DMH Low Profile cut out. You have to call the guy for these they aren't on his website but they are a nice snug flt and are more discrete. It's made to the size of your pipe (2.5", 2.0" etc) and put right on the pipe direct, no Y pipe needed.
I'm going to throw this bad boy on I should have some videos coming shortly. I am putting mine between my cats and before my resonator.
