'04 or '05 CLK500 Maintenance Help
Hey everyone, I have been looking into possibly purchasing a preowned '04 or '05 CLK500 with each around 40k miles on them. I plan on driving the car for another 40k and getting rid of it after for sure. I am looking to see if anyone has any input or advice on if you guys think an extended warranty would be needed and also what type of maintenance am I looking at from 40k to 80k? Both cars have clean car fax reports and were previously leased. Any advice is appreciated as I am having a tough time deciding between a preowned CLK500 or a fully loaded new 335xi.

no such thing as 335xi as far i know
i would definitely get a extended warranty...each visit to the dealer for any problem is about $150-200. and that's just to look to see what the problem might be.
That's actually where this forum comes in handy and saves some trips to the dealer.
As long as the transmission is strong or has been replaced after that recall, and the electricals have been somewhat reliable, i would definitely get the 500 over a 335. Give a dealer a call and find out what it's been in the shop for repairs. If it looks clean and reliable, i would get it.
U'll save money now by buying a car that's depreciated and selling it after 40k more miles.
plus the clk500 is still pretty rare up here compared to a bmw 3 series.

CLK 500
I agree -- i'd get a warranty if you plan on holding on to it for awhile. Mine has definietly had its share of minor issues (thankfully it's still under warranty). I brought it in for service once to fix a slew of issues i.e. noisy door seals, faulty trunk latch, one-touch sunroof wouldnt work -- the service advisor handed me the bill not realizing it was still under warranty -- my reaction was
, rediculous!
