I wasn't big on 'verts in northern climates until I rode in a co-worker's CLK in Germany. That completely sold me.

Mercedes
Coupe. I think the cab doesn't look nearly as good, as the top destroys the lines. The car has pillarless windows, so that was good enough for me.

2013 E550 Cabriolet; 2004 CLK500 Cabriolet Designo (sold)
If you can afford the extra dough, get the convertible. On my very worst day, everything gets better when I sail down the road with the top down and the tunes playing. Can't beat it.

CLK 500 Cabriolet and A160L
Why have all the disadvantages of 2 doors and none of the advantages? Cabriolet is obviously the way to go.

2005 CLK500
A better question would be a 350 convertible or a 550 coupe? They cost roughly the same...

For the same amount of $, do you want the top down or do you want a faster engine?

I would ask the question then as follows: "V6 or V8?"

My answer would be: "go for a second hand V8 cabriolet if you have a limited budget"

CLK55 AMG
New '04 CLK55 AMG owner here. I have only owned the car for two weeks now. Drove from Colorado to Vegas, then to LA, back to Vegas and then Route 66 as much as possible all the way back to home in Cleveland Ohio. When it's too hot (or cold) I put the top up. When the weather was pleasant there was nothing in world like putting that top down and hearing that supercharged V8 purr down the open road. There is no better way to see the USA.

Top down all the way!

Not to mention the ooohs and ahhhhs I get when they see that clamshell open up.

I opted for the 550 Coupe because it looks better & I live in New York. I sometimes have regrets but in the winter I am sure I will be glad I went with the coupe.
