Warranty question - brakes

My 2004 CLK500 has 40,000 miles on it which means it is still under original warranty. I bought is used and it's CPO, which means it also has an extended warranty once the original warranty expires. I know the CPO warranty specifically excludes brake pads and rotors, but I'm curious if these items are covered under the original warranty.

No, they're not covered under the original warranty. But I think if your car is CPO, it's supposed to have a certain percentage of the brakes left. I'm not sure about that though, but I'd look into it if the indicator light came on right after you bought it.

For the benefit of those who have suffered brake squeal I thought I'd post the end of the story...

When I picked up the car they told me no problem found. I drove it away and went to lunch and....THE BRAKES SQUEALED. So I went back and pitched a fit and was lucky enough to talk to an actual mechanic who gave a SH_T about my car. He pulled the wheel and showed me the brake pad which he said was within 1mm of the tolerance for a CPO inspection. So I told the service manager that if they were that close, the pads should have been replaced AND they squeal. So they did a front brake job with new pads and the anti-squeal dampers and so far, (fingers crossed) no squeal!

That's true, there was no charge, but I did not know about the service bulletin. I guess they did!
