Burning Smell + Hard Park->Drive shift

Recently started noticing a burning smell in the car. Smells a little like antifreeze burning off something hot. But no leaks on the garage floor.

Also, when shifting from Park/Neutral to drive, the car BANGS into gear if the car is even slightly moving backward at the time.

Could this be the dreadded coolant leaking into the transmission problem that have required some to have their transmissions replaced ?

One more symptom I've noticed at the same time is that the steering is stiffer - as though the power steering isn't working as well as it used to. I need to check the fluid level.

The really hard park-to-Drive shift happened to me earlier this year and when I took it in for other service and mentioned this, the car wouldn't do it at all. It's done it on and off since but now it's pretty severe.

Sorry to hear about your pain.

I believe my factory warranty has run out. But I have a pretty decent extended warranty from Continental.

do you get the shaking from the rear end sometimes driving on the highway? feels like u r driving over those lines on the floor before the toll booths. if minor, flush ur transmission with new transmission fluid and get a new radiator. you wouldnt need to rebuild the whole thing yet

I've never noticed that but most of my driving these days is 11 miles, to and from work, where the max speed is 35MPH on back roads.

Sounds just like what had happenned to me.

Get it checked... it gets worse if it's the same problem.
