Dual or Quad-Exhaust system for CLK?
Hi, there.
I've just traded in my Jaguar X-Type 3.0 Sport for a Mercedes CLK 320.
However, I had four tail-pipes on the back of the Jag, provided by a company called Arden, who specialise in upgrades for Jags and Range Rovers.
I think I'm going to miss them and wondered if there was a way of getting a dual or even quad exhaust fitted to the Merc...
Cheers,
Alex

I am aware that Brabus do a dual-exhaust upgrade... anyone know of any company that does quads, even if the right-hand tail-pipes were purely for show and not actually mechanical.

yea u can do a custom quad pretty easily, i plan on doing this to my car: where the resonator is located (or was located for me) i plan on mounting a muffler there with a duel outlet, and then have a exhaust shop do a y split one to each side then split it again to get a quad look

two examples of members here, phatisfy and nj500fbc, who have already done it.

Most of the guys that have dual outlet runs off of single muffler. Some have said that it affects performance in a negative way as well.
It is possible to have a real dual exhaust but would require the spare wheel tub conversion from the C55. There is a post where a member has done it and lists out the parts number and what the work entails.

I kept the first cat on (stock) and removed the 2nd. In place of the second cat I put a magnaflow hi-flow muffler. In place of the stock muffler, I used a hi-flow magnaflow muffler. It is not a true dual exhaust.... I needed to find the balance with my exhaust. We ran it with a bit too much flow. I absolutely lost low end TQ. But to combat that, I had the ECU flashed with Speed Tuning's Stage 2 ECU upgrade (timing advance, raised redline, raised speed limiter, longer hold before shift).
I don't have the dyno numbers to show, but I can say it made a significant difference in HP and low to midrange TQ.
My bit of 411 is.... if you run any hi flow exhaust, make sure to flash the ECU to get back your low end power.

I have researched this for so long. How will a true dual effect back pressure and it turn, low end TQ??

As you already know the point of the exhaust mod is to achieve greater flow in the exhaust by minimizing restrictions. So if you want to run a true dual exhaust, the airflow will incease (as compared to a single exhaust) due to less restriction of having to merge the manifolds into one pipe; and by having two pipes. Also the idea of having dual exhaust is that it allows for more even flow of gases. That's why there's all the bends in headers is to use the same length of tubing (as you're probably aware of that too). Some of the poorly designed faux exhausts causes uneven gas flow as there is a second set of tubing exiting the exhaust, but the lengths being different causes vacuum within the exhuast and therefore disrupting the airflow which is why some faux dual exhaust causes power loss.
That's my understanding of how it works. You are definately correct about ECU flashing when changing out to a free flow exhaust.

Say, does flashing the ECU to get more power and regain the low end torque in a dual/quad exhaust system by changing the air/fuel mixture, cause more smog emission???
Would the car still pass the California SMOG II emission test?????
Thanks...

twin system
i love my clk320 but the sound and the single pipe is a big disappointment !! can we put extractors 2 into 2 split mufflers front to back; or leave it all alone and just split the system half way down into a twin ?

This is an old thread, but not much has changed since then. Andy already linked you to my exhaust thread. I also have a couple sound clips floating around with cat/res/muffler delete if you want to hear how it sounds. Should be finishing the project in about a week. Any questions, let me know.

OK here's the AD for the Weitmeirer's Quad exhaust, but is pricey at $1250.00...
