Smartkey

I see these smartkeys for sale on ebay and I was wondering how do I program on to work with my 03 CLK500. My key is getting worn out so I would like to replace it. These are much less expensive than the dealers so any help would be appreciated.

I googled it and it says put it in the ignition and press certain buttons and it takes up to two hours to program. But this was for a 1998. I am not certain if it will work on a newer version.

I appreciate your prompt response to send us through the forums looking to see if there was an answer to my question. But unfortunately I must not have STFF very well because there is still not an answer to my question. I am asking how to program a smartkey for a w209(not w208) 2003 CLK500. Can I program it or must it be done by a dealer.

Searching (again) through the forums before I wrote this post did let me see something else that seemed like a nice addition. One of the posts shows someone with a W208 ordered the new chrome key. Has anyone tried this for a W209 and got it to work?

honestly, they are only good for parts, they can never be reprogrammed by conventional means, i have a factory mercedes diagnostic system and am still unable to, i am sure the department at mercedes that makes them could, but i am also sure they would rather sell you a new one, unless your key is phsically damaged externally dont waste your money, they can be opened and the internals changed to another good housing

if i remember correctly, you cant do it yourself. you have two options. get a new key from the dealership or get it from oemparts. they somehow program it if you give them your VIN . (if you search chrome key, you should find some posts)
