2005 CLK 320
HID install
I going to buy a HID kit for my 05 CLK 320. Do I need a relay? The car does not have the BiXenon upgrade. the kit I was going to get is from Xenonlink.com and they said it will be plug and play.

I have an 04 clk500, been going through silverstar h7su at the rate of a pair every 6 months and last week 1 bulb burned out again. I was thinking about putting the kit from xenonlink.com on, my questions are
1. have anyone used their stuff? The price is pretty low so I'm a little worried.
2. if the stuff works, how easy is it to do it myself?
3. will this void the extended warranty I have?
4. I heard the 8000 version is closest to the stock HID, is that true?

most kits are the same. some people will tell you certain kits wont trigger your "xenon not present" dash warning, which may be true. if you look around on ebay, there are reliable kits like the MTEC kit. they basically have a capacitor built in, so it wont cause any flickering, or a dashboard headlight warning. I personally, went with a the cheaper kits and just had my computer setting changed to "xenon=present". some dealerships will do it free, and some will charge. Some people dont have a problem with their xenon kits, even without changing the computer setting. That wasnt the case for me, so it seems like a hit or miss situation. And about voiding warranty........it probally wont void your warranty unless something goes wrong with your car. THe dealership will blame whatever they can on you. if you installed your own xenon kit and something else goes wrong with your car, they're going to blame you and that xenon kit.

i'm looking at kits on ebay too and some of them come with a digital relay cable or something to avoid the dashboard warning, if you have the mtec with the capactor i guess you won't need that cable huh? how much do the mtec and mccullogh(sp?) kits usually go for?
the kits i'm looking at are between 70 and 140, the seller told me the cheaper kits are made in korea(xenonvision) while the more expensive ones made in japan, are japanese kits better or does it not matter much?
i was debating between the 8000k and the 10000k, but from searching on the forums it looks like 6000k is the way to go...man i can't imagine what 20000k looks like

i'm just like you. i had the stock halogens, and put in the kit myself. i got two $100 kits (one for headlights and one for fogs). They began to flicker so I had the setting changed to "xenon=present". My headlights are 4300, and fogs are 5000k........6000 looks nice, but you have to remember the higher the kelvin rating you go, the shorter distance your light will travel. Not to mention, when i see a car with 10000's it just kills my eyes. MTEC kits are 300 bucks so if you're willing to shell out a little more, I'd say for it. YOu wont have to pay for the setting to be changed in your car (maybe your dealership will do it free, maybe they wont do it at all.........you never know)

heres an ebay MTEC kit (item # 380017162297). pricey, but if you cant get your dealership to agree on changing setting, I suggest you go for this.

I just got my kit today, electrically it works fine but I'm having trouble making the bulb fit!
first of all the original power supply was originally used to keep the bulb in the headlight, that can't be used anymore because that power supply now connects to a bunch of things, including the huge ballast that's as big as my damn wallet. So I used the washer to sort of make the bulb stay in the unit, but the 2nd issue is that the black cap that keeps the water out now can't be put on because of all the wires that stick out
did I just get a bad kit or are hid kits more complicated than simple plug and play? I'm really trying to avoid going back to the sylvania bulbs...
