A Metal Tube at the Back of the Engine....
I noticed an open, metal tube(inside the engine compartment) at the firewall, at the back of my engine today. It sticks straight up. Looks like a dipstick tube, only without anything inside of it.
If any of you have a chance, take a look for me and let me know if there is anything like this in your CLK.

If you go to www.oorjim.myphotoalbum.com there is a picture of the pipe at the back of the engine it has the red cap fitted in it.

Thats your Transmissian dip stick only mb techs can check the lvl at the shop prevents ppl from tampering with them and Voiding the warrenty if something were to happen to the tranny and the cap was broken u could be put at fault

That's the engine oil dipstick tube. The trans oil dipstick tube needs the engine cover to be removed to reach it.

Hers's a pic of the tube with an M-B 'measuring stick' inside during an oil change. The red plastic cap is shown on the engine cover alongside.
Probably best if you get another - the dipstick tube should be plugged to keep muck out.

I think it may be time to have it flushed (again) and have the trans reset at and MB dealer.
What do you's guys think?

I have been having weird things happening with my transmission recently and this may be why - no cap. And who knows how long it's been off...... Trans getting stuck in a gear when manually shifting, when running at WOT clunking into 2nd gear (sometimes) and just generally off it's normal shifting points.

I had a similar problem when I got my '04 last October. It was fixed free since I still had a month to go on the original warrantee. I believe it was a simple fix, and I recall it was electronic, like some kind of connector coming loose or something. Gee, I'm being real helpful here.
I am going to get it hooked up asap to a MB diagnostic computer and find out whats going on.
I am planning on selling this car pretty soon. I need something with a warranty - and it's an excuse to give my wife to buy AMG......

To see where the ATF dipstick is, you have to pop off the plastic engine cover. The cap is normally 'sealed' closed.

I will post what the exact problem is tomorrow night when I get the car back.
Something was wrong in the transmission....$1000 to fix......whatever.
As long as I didn't have to replace the trans, I am happy.
They threw in the dipstick tube cap for free.
