Hello I work for a bodyshop as a mechanic I am working on a car i am currently swapping out an engine, have a few questions that I am hoping you guys can answer, I guess I will start by explaning the situation so bair with me . One of the insurance companies we work with brought us a 2004 clk 500 with 53,000 miles with a bad engine, said the owner drove through a flooded street and flooded the engine with water. The car was originally taken to mercedes to be repaired, mercedes diss assembled the engine completly and said it needed to be replaced. The insurance company wouldn't cover a new engine and mercedes wouldn't install a used engine, guess due to warranty purposes. We have got a engine for the car with 32,000 miles on it, only flaw was the oil pan was badly damaged in wreck, so bad that it even tore up the pick up tube. In proccess now of swaping out the upper and lower pan and oil pump from original engine.
Now for the question part is there a special procedure in primming the oil pump or is it even nessary? next question guess mercedes drained the transmission when they removed it with the engine how do i go about filling it and what kind of fluid should be used & how do i check the level? Does this engine require a special anti freeze, I plan to put mobile 1 10w30 if i remember right, how many quarts does it require I believe its like 7-1/2 to 8 quarts. Last question, is the ecu going to give any issues with the new engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

After the install I would unplug the crank position sensor and crank the engine over several times to prime the engine
Are you sure the trans was drained?..remove the drain plug on the trans pan to make sure?
If so you will need a trans dip stick to measure the fluid level warm
Use only the OE MB Trans Fluid
Start with 8 quarts of Mobil one
The ME control unit should be ok as long as the replacement engine is of the same year

fill the oil pump with as much oil as you can and mount it in the engine. Try to keep the pump level without spilling the oil. Then proceed with mark's procedure above. running the pump completely dry will be difficult to prime it.

I found out that the donor engine came out of a 03 e500. Everthing looks the same on both engines. Noticed you said it must be of the same year. Do i need to swap out all the sensors and fuel injectors?
