Installing Hoen Lights....

Next week I will be installing xenonmatch fog lights and "LED style" license plate bulbs to my 209. After the install, I will post some before and after photos to show the difference.
I chose Hoen bulbs because I didn't want to run into the problems many people have when replacing the stock bulbs with LED's.

In case anyone wants the info for a 2004 clk500.......the replacement xenonmatch fog lamp bulbs are part number 9006 and license plate bulbs are part number C5W (non LED).
Their website shows a bunch of before and after photos........it sold me.

So I guess this is the "how to" sequence of photos for my license plate lights......Hope this all doesn't seem to basic to post... I thought it could be helpful to someone who will do this upgrade.

License plate bulb replacement:
Locate the bulb covers on the trunk lid above license plate.
Remove the 2 screws with a small phillips head screwdriver. (1st photo)
Carefully...with a small flathead screwdriver, pry off the plastic bulb cover (2nd photo).
Next, remove the bulb from the plastic lens that was just taken out of the bulb housing. The bulb will be attached to the lens you just pulled out (photo 3).
BE CAREFUL not to pry the bulb out of it's holder to forcefully or you will be making a trip to the dealership to get a new lens. I also cleaned the plastic lens with some Simple Green and a soft scrub brush. It was pretty dirty.
Using disposable vinyl or latex gloves (photo 4), place your new, replacement bulb into the holder which is the area you just removed the old bulb from.
Gently place the lens back into the housing of the trunk by fitting the upper area of the lens in first and then the lower part second.
Secure the lens back to the housing of the trunk with the 2 screws and the first bulb replacement is complete.
Repeat the same steps to complete the opposite bulb replacement (photo 5).
Enjoy your new lights.
I was happy with the color....

-Chris

They seem to be a hair shorter.....but they both fit into the bulb holder on the lens. Once I put the bulb and lens into the housing, the bulb snaps into the 2 clips. You can see the 2 clips inside the housing below....I have not had a problem yet...
