reliability of clk 320/350
I found a 2003 clk320 for dirt cheap with 109k miles. Personally, I'd like to spend a little more and get one with less miles, but even in the bay area there aren't many CLK 320's to choose from. There are much more CLK 500's and they are in my price range, but I don't want a V8, the fact of the matter is, I'll mod the **** out of it. The point of this car is to have a car I will enjoy driving (meaning doesn't drive like a boat) but won't be tempted to mod and will get good gas milage. I really wish I could pony up for a clk 350, but those are just a touch out of my price range. How will the high miles effect these motors? How long do they normally last? I'm used to 4g63's which last forever and a half, so Im not TOO concerned with high miles, but I know I should be in the back of my head, so I figured I should ask. Most likely I'm expecting the usual, more likely to have problems, etc etc.
Is there anything to look for from year to year. I'm pretty set on a w209, and the one car I test drove the woman said the 2003 model didn't have the "sos" option, so theres a malfuntion always displayed on the dash. I didn't buy that, but maybe its true. I'm not terribly big on options, but were there any big changes from year to year in terms of available options and standard options (or anything else really).
Do these cars have timing chains? I hate timing belts. I repeat, I HATE TIMING BELTS. One last time, I HATE F*(#ING TIMING BELTS. I'm pretty sure the M272E35 does, but I wasn't sure about the,... M112?
Do these cars have a rear LSD? (hahaha, someone's forgetting they aren't looking at triple differencial awd cars anymore)
thanks for any input you guys.
