2007 CLK 550
Steering vibration

Ok guys, Im at wits end trying to figure out why Im having a vibration/shimmy in my steering wheel at low speeds 10-15 mph. I hardly notice it @ cruising speeds but I do feel it. The vibtation feels like it is coming from the passenger side. What should I do next?

Things I have done already:

Alignment: watched this being done, all within specs.

Rotation: switched the fronts seeing as I have a staggered setup. No change

Tires: Replaced both fronts and rears: No change

Tire shop said rotors were with specs and brakes were good

Could this be a warped rotor perhaps or wheel bearing getting ready to fail?

Vibration is usually caused by unbalanced tires. This happened to me recently. Had my tires balanced and the vibration is gone, simple as that.

When you switched the fronts, the vibration may just have moved from one side to the other. I would suggest checking if any wheels are bent; you can balance the tires and still have a bent wheel that causes a vibration. Drive through one good pothole and the car just doesn't feel the same.

My dealer checks for bent wheels whenever I go in for service: I guess that's to make an extra $450 per new wheel. Then I take the wheel to a wheel shop and get it refinished instead.

Thanks for the information guys. Just to let you know. I am running no spacers. In regards to the tires being balanced. They were balanced both times, once with old tires and yet again with new tires. I then proceeded to rotate the fronts and still have the same issure of vibration. Thats why I am so puzzled. If it were as simple as a balance job or bent rim that would have been an easy cure. On the other hand, maybe they missed a bent rim.

The tires can be balanced on a bent rim. It is often the inside of the wheel that gets bent and you can see it if the wheel is off the car and spun rapidly on a stand.
It costs about $150 to straighten a wheel and they refinish the whole wheel at the same time: goodbye curb rash...

Much cheaper than buying new MB wheels!

Typically a bent rim, also I have heard that inexpensive tires can be the cause of such problems as well.
