Look before I go any further I know the Honda is not a MBZ but I just bought a new 03 accord ex v6 for my Dad and I must say the fit and finish rival that of my 208 and the 240hp V6 is a jewel, the quality of materials on the interior is first rate as is the electroluminesant instrument, hvac and audio controls, the car drove like a dream, quiet so smooth and tight as a drum, the handling with the double wish bone suspension is great. The car has so many standard items it's incredible. I cannot see how a 208 or 209 costs over 2 times as much and how some stupid people pay it...like me

BTW, accord v6 coupe costs around 31,000 out the door
BMW 325ci costs around 40,000....i'd rather take a bmw..

You're missing the point, I'm talking about superb fit and finish, materials, engineering (double over head cams 4 valves per cylinder, variable valve timing and double wishbone suspension, which the clk does not have) plus lots and lots of standard equipment etc etc at a great price.
The clk styling is nicer that's obvious... I've owned three and just bought a 209 BUT the price difference IMHO is not worth over 2 times the price, period.

I hate to sound like a traitor, but I'd rather have the new Accord coupe too. Don't get me wrong, the CLK is in a different social status and somebody with their heart set on a CLK would likely laugh at the suggestion of buying an Accord. But I've seen firsthand all the glitches and malfunctions commonly associated with late model MB's, and my humble little Honda has never treated me wrong.

This is like comparing Giorgio Armani to Tommy Hilfiger. Both will cloth you and satisfy your basic needs but are we so content with the basics? I don't want to be one of the "regular" guys. I am an Armani guy( with Hugo Boss stuff too) and I will always have German cars( maybe it is time for a M5)

RJC,

I've also ridden in the new Accord and I can very easily back you up. It is built well and is a great car for the price. Do I think my CLK is worth twice the Accord? I guess it depends on what I value. If turning heads and status is important, then yes I would spend the extra $$$. If all I want is a good car for the money, many Hondas, Toyotas, and Acuras (which I think provide the most bang for your buck...just look at the features you get for the $$$) are probably the better buy. Hell, think of how much $$$ you could make by investing what you saved!

Back to my opinion, I'm very happy with my purchase. I got 302 horses and 339 ft/lbs of torque at my pedal, which I could not get with the Accord and a beatiful, elegant desgin. For me, the CLK was a splurge. Usually, I try to purchase cars that give me a good bang for the buck (based on what I value). I also try and keep cars for a long time, in order to squeeze as much value out of the depreciating asset as I can. To me, the occasional splurge is ok...everybody eats a good steak once in a while right?

For a daily driver Accord is very nice. A MB CLK is in a different world. Status, solidity, technalogy, and prestige comes with the Mercedes-Benz brand. I'd say the CLK is worth the money, and Accord coupe is over priced.

Speaking of over priced, I just saw the new motor trend. The NEW Maxima according to the mag will have based price of est $28k...

I think the new Accord is an awesome car, great styling, beautiful interior, and relibility that is almost untouched. Something we never take into consideration is the cost of maintenance:
Accord: virtually maintenance free
Benz: when was the last time anyone priced a Service A or B??
Once again, this debate all goes back to what you value in a car. RJC, hopefully your Dad isn't interested in picking up chicks that look for a guy who drives a Benzo, he should leave that to you!!!

the new accord coupe is one of the most ugliest cars ive seen in a while. the back of this car is a total benz knockoff, i mean can u say wtf???. hell look at the front of the car, why dont you just buy a *******g civic. im sure this is a great solid car. but design wise it gets no respect from me what so ever!!

one more thing if anyone thinks the clk is too expensive than dont buy it! go get your honda.

i was close to getting a clk myself but i chose not too because it was a little out of my range. if i wanted to spend more its the perfect car imo. you aint just paying for the name, your paying for the whole car.

btw when u get into a bad accident in a benz, then you will understand why benz is so expensive. the car is a tank. i found that out first hand.

this is a gay comparison, if you even have to compare the accord with the clk, then you have some problems.

i dont mean to sound like dick, but this is getting annoying

comparing bmw to benz is fine, not honda and toyota or the king of copy cats lexus for that matter

The Accord's looks are growing on me - I respect Honda Engineering. The car i enjoyed the most was my 92 prelude. That car drove like a solid ingot of metal and a lot of fun to drive. I enjoy my Mercedes but by no means is it head and shoulders above the competiton (except in pricing).

I only think the new Accord looks good from far and in black. Once I walk up to it, the only thing that is still nice is the interior (except the gear lever)

I didn't understand why some people thought the clk and c class looked like a civic until I saw one at night recently. They have some similar cues like the C shaped tail lights. Whats up with that? Did the designers think it would be cool to have a c shaped light cuz they both start with C??

the c-class's taillights dont really look like a "c"
i only realized it after u said it

i like mercedes taillights...especially when you give a turn signal...it looks nice....2 strips of yeallow

RJC -

good points re Honda Accord. Additionally, the serpentine dash exhibits the new E-class design traits.

However, it lacks the MB Star!

Actually, if you check out a BMW 3x coupe and the previous model Civic coupe, you will notice a much bigger similarity. Similar profile and size. The side profile of the rear is especially obvious.
