Yes, we are all part of the "gay car" Mercedes Benz community. Though, I have probably been with more girls than most of the people that call CLK's gay/women cars. LMAO!!!

Girls do like cute cars.. what can I say

You sound like you should get a G37 hardtop convertible because you want the most bang for your bucks. By no means Benz's reliability and upkeep costs are cheaper than BMW. In fact, they are more expensive. At least BMW offer free maintainence for the first 4 years.

You did say you like it because it looks like the CLK55. There are convertible CLK55s out there too. Why didn't you get that? Hypocrite please.

I guess everyone can agree the difference in 20HP is huge . If so ya'll are dillusional. Most people here can't tell the difference. The obvious difference is the AMG badge, the handcraft engine, the improved tranny, better suspension, better leather seats, better exhaust notes. I can name a few more.

My reasoning is subjected to this question CLK55 vs. CLK550 as well.

Cheers

As to the hypocrite comment - I bought the clk 550 for several reasons that had nothing to do with "prestige." It fit what I needed (wanted): four seat convertible which I could use for a daily driver, wanted it to be somewhat fast and handle well, needed the back seat to be able fit my kids and get two golf bags in the trunk with the top down. Given those specs and pricing considerations, the CLK 550 was the best choice, plus I liked the way it looked just like the CLK 55.

As to the other brands, looked at at BMW 3 series - fast and nice but actually felt much smaller inside (and trunk), also they would not deal on them and bmw charges for everything that should be standard. I even looked at a 2006 Carrera S convertible but it was way too small. I really could not find another car to meet my needs.

As to M3 or GT-R, if i was in the market for a coupe, hell yes, those would be great choices. However, reliability on a M3 or the GT-R - had an M3, reliability and maintenance were not its strong points.

As to the comment about an AMG if i could have it - hell yes, but only if it was CLK 63. I looked at one and, price independent, I would rather have the AMG that than my CLK 550. However, I like many others, had to factor in price and it was not worth the extra $ to me. However, that was not the question originally asked - it was an 2005 CLK 55 versus a 2007 CLK 550. For that comparison, I think the 550 is a better deal.

But not really for some people and I'm one of those people. When I bought my used 2006 Clk 500 Cabriolet with only 5k miles for around $59K cash out the door (2 payments). I found alot used 2004-2005 Clk 55 convertible with much higher mileages and around $50K but I went with the 2006 Clk 500 just because of the comestic update like bumper, foglight, tail light...etc. They look so much better. At the time I still own an 2001 CL 55 and I don't find it special because it not a kompressor engine.

I tested drive an Clk 550 when I has my car service at the dealer. The 550 engine felt more torques and the sound from the muffler is much better and louder then my Cl 55. I'm not sure how the stock Clk 55 muffler sound though.

Both cars are nice, but the AMG tuned transmission is the tiebreaker for me. I drove the 7G on several occasions (an in-law has a CLK550 Cabriolet) and just can't dig it.

Plus, the Brabus springs I have match so much better with the CLK55 struts than non-AMG struts. But to each their own, either choice is good.

Your car is soooo sexy regardless, so your vote doesn't really count.

I don't like convertibles so I would take a CLK55 over a CLK550 cab any day.
But I would take a a CLK550 coupe over a CLK55.
I would take a CLK550 coupe over a CLK63 - yes I hate convertibles that much.
But I would kill to have the black series over anything.

If you own more then one then you got to have a convertible. My first mercedes was Slk 230 then when I saw the Clk 430.....i felt in love and bought the Clk 430 also. I then want an AMG, sold the Slk 230 and bought the CL 55. I then realized that have 2 coupe (Clk 430 & CL 55) and always drive the CL 55. After about 2 years, i missed the convertible so bad and decided to buy the Clk 500 convertible. Now I got 2 coupes and a convertible in the garage. Guess what happen........? I stop driving the 2 coupes and take the convertible out every time I got a chance. 6 months later after I bought the convertible, I sold the CL 55 and took a $45K hit depreciation values and mods $$$$$$$. That was a lesson learn for me and that's why I don't do supercharger mods on any of my cars anymore.

CLK500 Cabrio 2005
There's really no comparison between a Cabrio and a coupe. If you want to have a convertible, which is the most enjoyable driving experience when the weather is right, then get the Cabrio. If you want a more stream-lined look, get the coupe. It's really simple, you want a convertible, or you don't. The CLK 550 will keep up with the AMG anyway, if not beat it.

As is this entire debate, that's just personal opinion. The look of the car aside, not everyone likes being fully exposed or needs that to enjoy driving. My driving experience would be most enjoyable taking a Black series around a track, with all the windows down. good enough for me.

I wish they made AMG cars a whole lot faster than the regular benz so this question would never come up. Kinda like M3 and the regular 3 series.

for me it was about owning the top of the line CLK. you can buy a 500 or 550 and they will be great, quick cars. you can modify them to look great, etc. but they will never be an amg. what we are talking about really is prestige. the amg's engine is hand built. their is an exclusivity that comes with owning an amg. people dont even notice or care that my car is a clk. they first recognize it is a Mercedes and then they immediately recognize it is an AMG. even if they dont understand what that entails they do know that it means that it is more than just a CLK.

by the way there are a lot of Amg's that are not supercharged. in fact most are N/A.

Yeah!! That is a point. Amg is Amg. hmm.

By the way, I didn't know there were interior & exterior differences between 2006 and 2007. I thought the minor change has done in 2006.

This is the truth, bro. My neighbor, who is 6"9 and used to play NCAA basketball, said the same thing. He's been in CLKs before, but was really digging the AMG. As I've stated before, the AMG is more than a sum of its parts, if that makes sense. Newer cars will always be more and more faster, but it's not just about that.

They did starting in 2003 when all AMG car came with Kompressor excepted for the C55 and Clk 55. Then they came out with the 6.3 AMG n/a engine that is still alot faster then the regular benzs. The C55 and Clk 55 might carry the AMG emblem but we all know........is nothing special about it and WAY under power when compared it to the REAL AMG 5.4 AMG Kompressor engine and 6.3 AMG engine. I know some of you feel special about the AMG badge on the trunk regardless of power. I guess kindna like the people the stick the AMG badge on their none-AMG car.. Here is my opinion and experienced when I bought the CL 55. I felt like on top of the world every time I took the car out for a drive because it an AMG and the flagship model of Mercedes. But then every time I see a CL 55 kompressor or any AMG kompressor cars, my car felt cheap in comparision because of way under power. That was my real reason for going with HPS supercharger for more power. That's my opinion and I'll respect your.

First off, Linh, you keep posting the same crap over and over. Your comments of the 5.4L engine are not only insulting, but reflect your poor education and reflect your bitterness.

You were foolish enough to buy an old CL55 (2001, non-kompressor) and spend/waste thousands more with HPS (hahahaha) trying to achieve more power. The 5.4L engine in my car, which is the same power output that was in your old CL55, is a solid engine, and a true AMG engine.

Unfortunately, the 5.4L engine is a little underpowered for the 2001 CL, and Mercedes realized it in 2004, when they added a Supercharger. You were one of the fools who did not realize the 2001 CL was underpowered and wasted your money on that car, and the thousands more with HPS (again, hahahahaha). Don't hate on the CLK55 because of your experience. Hate your own stupidity for buying the wrong car.

Your comments are merely opinions, from a bitter person that bought a lemon.
