XM / line level input on 04 CLK?

XM / line level input on 04 CLK?
So I just got Xm installed today, using the FM transmitter option. The guy installed the antenna on the center speaker (my request), and it looks nice, but no sure reception is as good as I would like.
Not so happy with the FM. Not as crisp as line in, and doesn't get as loud as my regular FM stations and CD player.
There is line-in on the 04 standard head unit. Does any one know either:
1. How to mod the head unit to replace the tape input with a line level input (or does a cassette adapter work better than FM?). I saw a link to do that, but the pictures are all gone!
2. Or get a different head unit that either has line input or XM/Sirius built in? Of course, the Mercedes HUs work with the steering controls, and I heard that the non-Merc units don't. Any idea which year/model HUs would work in my car and do the trick?
