The ultimate question...

So I have had my CLK500 sitting in my garage since 2004. I drove it at least 3 times a month or whatever, anyways, I bought it for a great deal because I wanted to race it. Business is great right now. So I have extra money to spend and want to get your guys personal opionion on what I should get put on it. One of the major things I was thinking about was getting wide body. But, well see. I don't know where to find any of this ****. Only thing I found was a Kleeman Supercharger for 10k. But I didn't know if this was right. If it is, i'll pick it up. But, if you guys would gladly help me out and find some stuff to put on it, like if it was your own car you were going to hook up. Also, looking for a Mechanic thats willing to put all the stuff on. Hotel, flight, and time will be compesated. Thanks, let me know!!

Call or text whenever you guys want. I don't care.

John

What kind of RACING did you buy your car for?
Road Racing? Autocross? Dragging? Rally? Drift? Time Attack?

For one, you cant race without suspension.
For two, wide body wont have any affect on your racing results.
For three, if it's street racing and you're 16 years old i vote ban.

Lol, I am 24. I got it for drag. Wide body just looks cool as ****. Better than the regular body. How could I buy a car in 2004 and be 16 right now? Lol. Its ok though. <3 But any opionions would be great.

well, for drag...

my car did a 13.7 stock trapping 98 mph at best thusfar.
no motor adds, about 80 degree heat, street tires.
launching traction control off from 2nd gear.

i dont know about yours though, i think the 04's have the 5 speed gearbox rather than the 7 like the 05 and ups no? you might be best off launching in first.

its not a race car.

a race car is a datsun 240z with a big turbo 2jz running 8 second runs and beating bored out nitrous street bikes.

if you want a "drag" car lets first consider what it is, anyone with a spare tire removed, exhaust, and intake can call it a "drag" car, you see it all the time with the honda crowd. There is alot more to building a drag car, even a street driven drag car.
You need power, for a car as heavy as the CLK (even with weight reduction) you will need at least 500+rwhp to brake into the low 11's or high 10's. This will involve force induction, or a crazy swap for a bigger benz engine, even then the swap and the powerband is not what you want in some cases for a drag car. So say you go turbo, you need to figure out your fuel to compensate for it, and most important the tuning. The only piggyback i know of that might work is the mapecu 1 or 2, even then the tuning involved to make it work with the OEM ECU is crazy. You might as well go full standalone, then you run into the problem of wiring, and finding someone able to tune the car correct and have it drive "normal". if you can figure all this out then your probably well over 10k reaching the 20k mark.
Then you need to put that to the grou, what are you going to do with the trans, i highly doubt the benz trans can handle hard launces at that powerband. Say you dump 5-10k on building the trans and it does hold it cool. Then suspension, the rear suspension of the benz is not designe for drag, you will have plenty of problems finding suspension parts to put the power down. After that you will start braking parts, axels, diff's, rods, links, etc...
What im saying is you can do it if you throw enough money into it, in the end its your money. IMO it will be a total waste of time, 99% of the people who attempt this will either quit half way or build what THEY consider a drag car and in acutallity it will be only a "fast" benz.
if you really want a brake down in detail PM me, i'll let you know what was done to my supra, past Rx7, and a few other cars, and what you can expect.

i just want another car to drive sideways again.

that was a 13.4 second car trapping crazy numbers at 14 pounds of boost. it didnt even have 300 horsepower, just to give you a comparison as to how much the mercedes is lacking as far as a race car setup goes.

Ok, so I figured out the next step I want to do. I want to do the 6.3 engine uprade before I even try a supercharger or anything. Any ideas on even trying to find one? Lol. Where can I start? And how much do you think it will run?

^^ BINGO, if your hell bent on a fast/drag benz, them sell yours and get a CL63 and go from there, but also keep in mind that squeezing more power of the 63 will cost an arm, leg, and maybe kidnney.

yeah i boosted my dual cam KA in that ^ S14, stock internals dont hold great. i threw a rod at 12 PSI with an enthalpy tune. SR is the most reliable and hard working motor ever i swear. and i used to hate on them before i got mine.

well probably.

mine was reliable until i gripped the bank at an event and hit the front on the wall so hard the back bounced in the air and hit a second later. it was like a fiberglass shower.

now the motor is built in some other dudes car.

im getting into road racing now, i think im gonna build a big turbo TT quattro, or possibly wait for the lotus's to drop a little more. they're afforadable right now, but still dropping in value fast.
