hard downshift in 7 speed....
I tried to STFF, but not much out there. saw something about a service bulletin but don't know if it applies. When I'm just rolling to a stop, or just rolling slow, like in bumper to bumper traffic and just chillin', sometimes the W209 will downshift so hard I think someone bumped me from behind. It only happens occasionally, but that can't be normal*, can it?
* full disclosure: I've never been all that skillful at using the gas pedal to downshift and upshift an automatic. I really only have two driving modes: I'm in no hurry ( alot of slow rolling) or get out of my way (I just floor it, swerve, and slam on the brakes as required).

Have Mercedes Benz update your software
Sounds like you need a tranny software update. This will make all down and up-shifts smoother.Have you serviced your tranny lately?what is your mileage?
Good luck!

Two of you guys don't have the new 7-speed automatic and so you wouldn't know the difference. The 2006 models get the 7-speed and I know exactly what eddieo45 are talking about. Yes, the 7-speed down shift to 1st is a little hard compared to the 5-speed on mine Clk 430 and CL 55 but I get used to it by now. If it bother you, switch it to C-mode when you stuck in stop-n-go traffics.

Thanks Klinh and everyone else; one easy way to see if you have the 7G is to go thru your gears manually.

7 speed starts in 05 clk500 I had 04 clk500 before and it had the 5 speed.
I also have the same ocassional harsh downshfit in slow traffic, I had tranny service at 35,000 just to make sure it wasnt that. They also flashed tranny about 6 month ago. Issue still there .

Yeah, the change down to 1st is alittle harsh.
Although I find gear shifts are ALOT smoother, even barely noticable, when the transmission has reached running temperature.
Actually, in addition to waiting for the engine & oil to reach running temperature, I also wait a while to ensure that the transmission is also warm before giving it the beans!

I have the 7-speed in my 2006 350 and it used to shift really hard into first gear. I would do the same thing, I would look in my mirror to see who hit the car. The first time it did it was when I drove the new car off the lot.
This was back in 2005, I mentioned it when I had the car serviced and it went away when they re-flashed the tranny with updated software: maybe your car did not get the update.
Even with the reflash, the car does not shift as well as a new C300 does but the slamming into first gear can be cured.

I had the same issue start to happen to me, but it shifted hard up and down in gears. Took it to the dealer while it was still under warranty, it went away for about a week, then I manually shifted...you know to get the extra push off the dead stop and I started to notice it again. just left it alone. as my warranty expired and its just kinda annoying and is usually only when the engine/ tranny is cold...06 clk 350...(with fake 63 badges cause I am a broke ***)
But I am not too broke to buy a supercharger for my car if anyone knows where I can buy one?
Thanks

update: just brought it to the dealer before the warranty's up next month. a long list of screws, seals and rings got replaced, and "B1 and B3 clips had popped out; remove and replace clip and spring on B3 assembly, remove and replace B1 assembly with K1 replacement per DTB P B 27.60/92"....and new tranny fluid to boot!
