Transmission question...

Hey guys im n00b to the site so go easy on me...

Any help with my problem will be appreciated!!

I had to replace the engine and transmission on my 2006 CLK500 and after doing so the transmission wont change gears. The car starts up and engine is running fine but it wont shift out of parking. The engine and trans came out of a 2005 CLK500 (which i was told by Mercedes are the same) and fit right in with no problems. I had no problem starting the car but the shifter wont get out of parking.

Any ideas?? I wanted to try the forum before i tow the car to the stealer as i know this is a great resource.

Give it a little more time someone should be able to help. Sounds like something is wrong with the tranny but don't quote me

Does it feel as if something is blocking the shifter? I believe most auto cars have shift interlock that blocks the shifter from moving out of Park unless your foot is on the brake. There may be something wrong with one of your switches/sensors.

well its not moving at all, its like trying to shift without having your foot on the brake pedal. i did not have this problem prior to the engine/trans swap. on another tech forum someone told me i may need to have the dealer "program the shifter" ...anyone know anything about this?

luckily i figured it had to be something with the fusebox because the dealer was about to charge me around $1000 for a new shifter/gear box or something

but still just for a fuse..they charged me around 200 bucks
