well for me when i tried using just the longer jack the sound kept getting distorted, when I used the extention cable the sound quality was so much better.

that is strange ... so i did buy the 3.5mm jack and i am using it now but its just NOT the same as having the integration kit. i was in a meeting and missed out on the one that was on ebay. so i guess im gona keep looking.

i wonder if i am going to have problems installing the integration kit if my car has the AUX 3.5mm input....can i have both ?? will i need to remove it ??

edit!

when you say "its just the same as having the integration kit" are you saying it charges your iPod, displays titles on your COMAND screen, and allows you to skip songs from the steering wheel controls?

I just sent you a PM with an eBay tip.

I don't have the iPod feature in my car, don't have Comand or Nav. I recently drove a couple of brand new w204 loaners while my CLK was in for warranty work: the first one had an iPod cable, but I only had it a day and barely drove it; the second had the 3.5mm jack and I had it for two weeks. I'm not much of an iPod user myself, but I had a friend's iPod at the same time (I'm a former DJ and he wanted me to load it up for him). The 3.5mm jack is barely functional for the iPod unless you have a passenger to control it, lol.

I didn't fully read the DIY post I sent you before, but I'll bet the other end of that 3.5mm jack plugs into the back of the HU in the same spot as the iPod cable, so you likely CAN'T have both. I'm hoping you'll let us know for sure after you install! Good luck!

Not sure if anyone ever answered fully your question, but no, the iPod does not display in the COMAND screen with the integration kit, but it does display in the dash display (it cycles through with the temperature, settings, direction, phone, etc.). And the steering wheel buttons then control your iPod - volume, track, playlist, etc. Plus your iPod gets charged. It's not perfect, but it's better than just the cable out of the headphone socket. I had a dealer fit it in mine, cost about $400 when I bought the car (a 2007 CPO). One tip I got from someone on the board is to turn "soundcheck" off on the iPod - it greatly improves sound quality.
