New member with CLK500 cabriolet ...first MOD question
I just got a 2005 CLK500 Cabriolet with GPS/Command and the first thing i want to do is add the IPOD kit. I have was trying to do some research and i am completely confused. All the post are very technical in terminology and i am new to Mercedes so ....
i guess the best thing would be to ask all you here....what would be the way to go? What do you have in your car? What are the cons and pros of what you have in your car??
Will the Mercedes kit play and display everything on the NAV screen??

2 things you need to look at it.
1) look at your headunit see if you have "AUX" or "CDC".
2) open your glove box see if you can find the input.
and how about a pix of you headunit + glove box. Im pretty sure you have a camera phone right ? lolz.

Fair enough...here you go:
NAV screen .. single CD is playing
controls on the left ...
controls on bottom...
i guess this is what you were asking about...there is a CDC and AUX input selection mode...
DVD and single CD drives behind the screen ..
CD changer inside the glove box..
when i select the AUX input it will bring me to this screen but nothing will play, no sound..
ohh and my little Yorki if anyone wana see her...
she was trying to help...

You have to use the 3.5mm jack to connect your ipod to the aux input on the top right hand side of your glove box. It's that metal hole over there in the last picture.
It's a walkman jack, but not an actual iPod integration kit. I think those are freakin' expensive. Hope this helps.

3.5mm .. ?? damn, that suck!! that is stupid! why did they put that in there and not an ipod integration kit ??? on a car like this..u know what i mean ?!?
so i guess i will need to buy and install the Mercedes IPOD kit... i found this on ebay:

If you use a 3.5 cable with a male connection on both ends it should work. Plug one 3.5 into the ipod and the other into the aux

yea but the sound quality is crap with that method ... also i dont wana be playing around with the ipod and having to charge it every day on the pc to use it in the car.
my questions still remains, its the ipod integration kit that i want.

I looked around the boards for you and I found THIS THREAD in the C-Class Forums (those guys seem a lot more active, in their modding and their posting). Looks like that eBay one you saw is the one you want, and the poster is SoCal like you. Let us know how you make out.

thank you eddie0, that was exactly what i wanted to hear. that post answered all my questions. i will be bidding on that eBay kit and will let everyone know how it works out.

CD suck!! i cant burn 2 - 3 hour livesets, my BMW is great with that stuff. it has a USB drive hookup and iPOD hookup. i can use my 32gig USB flash drive and my 120gig iPod and use the NAV/Info screen to control everything. I cant go from that back to CDs or stupid *** 3.5mm jack.
I hope the install of the integration kid goes easy....

1. get one of these cables
2. Plug either end into the little input in the glove compartment
3. Have one of these little 3.5mm extender cables for the other end
4. Plug the end of the long cable into the extender cable, take it out a little bit (if you plug it in all the way, you won't hear a thing)
5. Plug it into your iphone, ipod touch, ipod or whatever
6. Go to aux
7. Press play, and enjoy!
The cables you can get anywhere for like real cheap, radioshack, walmart, dollar store, etc.
Quality is good btw, it's not staticy

i dont get it, why are you not plugging in the 3.5mm male end directly into the ipod? why are you using the other extension ?
