There are 4 cats on the Mercedes V8. I'm not sure why "Kevblah" said his are not cats.

I know but he said the "two bubble" is a resonators" and not a cats. I can clearly see it the 2 secondary cats that he removed in his pic.

The resonator is the one in btwn the second cat and our stock muffler. Unless his car is modified by previous owner or something like that idk.

Okay, there's a lot of misconceptions about those two resonators being cats. They are resonators, and if anyone really wants to argue with me about. I suppose I can take pictures of the inside of them, they're just in my garage somewhere.

Also, I'm not the only one that has found that they are cats. There was at least one or two other people with CLK550s that went to get them taken out and found out that they are resonators.

The two "bubble" things (next components past the primary cats), are definitely the 2nd cats. The resonators on the CLKs are single units (if any at all). To my knowledge mecedes has never used individual resonators on any of their models ever, its always a single unit. Whether its dual pipe or single pipe makes no difference its function is the same. .

All right, there's been enough debate about this and time for some truth. I'm heading down to the garage to take some pictures of the "cats/resonators" in question...stay tuned.

That does not look like a cats but then the last time I removed a cat on my car is about 15 years ago. The internal designed of the cats might have changed with today cat. I still say it a cats.

Yeah, I thought all cats have a honeycomb design inside them. The inside of this one looks more like a resonator to me.

Those definitely don't look like the M113s cats. After seeing your sig I realized you have the newer 550 which explains it. I thought you were referring to the CLK500.

Why mercedes chose to not use secondary cats and put in resonators that look like secondary cats is extremely odd. Also the purpose of putting in 3 resonators is certainly an interesting, albeit weird choice.

It appears if Mercedes has abandoned going with primary & secondary cats and is now simply running larger primaries in order to pick up a bit more power (and probably reduce costs, as resonators costs a heck of alot less than cats). Yours is a US-spec car correct?

Good work on confirming that...

Do you have a pic of your primaries (not internal pics, just external pics)?

Guys, come on now.
I'm damn near muttering "cats" in my sleep nowadays!

LOL

P.S
Off topic, I know, but I just wanted to share the news that I have just had a Black Series steering wheel fitted.

Woohoo!
