Exhaust Work + A Surprise

So, this morning I took my car to an exhaust shop to get a little work done. I had them remove my main resonator and my two bubble resonators and replace them with dual piping. The car has a little more volume now and sounds similar to a stock AMG. I'm still looking to get more sound, so I may be straight piping it in the future.

Before:

After:

Here's the best part, and then on the way back from the exhaust shop, my friend in his e90 and I decided to take some fun backroads....bad call. I was driving behind him and all of a sudden, I dive into this pothole. I hit it so hard, I swear I almost lost consciousness for a second...and then my whole car started shaking and I knew something bad happened. Tire completely blew out

Pothole...my car off in the distance:

The Damage:

I was thinking I would get more sound also from the 2nd cats/resonator delete. I was a bit disappointed..That sucks about your tire, but how did you not see that big a** hole? That road looks bad I would be swerving all around..Anything happen to the rim?

I was driving pretty close behind my friend and we MAY have been doing like double the speed limit, so I didn't see that pothole at all. I have no idea if there's any damage to rim itself yet, I'll find out tomorrow.

Btw, those aren't "bubble resonators" the are your secondary cats. So you deleted your resonator & secondary cats (just to clarify).

would that cause a loss of back pressure or low end power?

No, they really are resonators. I know they look like cats, but they aren't. They are resonators.

I paid $125 to delete the 3 resonators, move the Y-Pipe further back, and install dual stainless steel pipes.

There's nothing inside them, you can see straight through...

+1 Thanks for the pics, I'm working on getting my own exhaust set up and I always wanted to know how the CLK looked underneath (for planing purposes). * So just to reiterate, you have strait pipes from your 1st Cats back or you still have your mufflers?
*Did you feel any differences in power (More power overall; better top end; lost a little torque on the bottom end; etc)?
*Driving around in freeway speeds, do you hear any droning?
*Sucks what happened to your wheel, did you ever get it fixed (and did it require an alignment)?
*How well where you keeping up with the E90?
*Your car looks pretty awesome, what do you have planned next?

Sorry for all the questions .......

*The only exhaust changes I did was remove the two bubble resonators and the one bigger resonator and replace them with dual pipes, the muffler is untouched.

* I honestly can't tell you that I feel any differences in power. If there are any differences in power, they are absolutely minimal.

*No droning on freeway speeds, you can't hear it at all, actually. The only time I can hear it is when I'm accelerating.

*The tire is obviously ruined; the rim is bent, but still balances. No alignment was done and the car drives fine now.

*My friend has a 325xi, so needless to say...I don't have any problem "keeping up" with it, hehe.

*I won't be doing much more to this car, I like it the way it is

Thanks for updating us with the info and progress, Andy! I can't completely remove my secondaries (California) but I was planning on replacing them with highflows, good to know that droning will not be an issue. Do you have any undercar installation pics or sound clips you can share? What are your high level plans for your quad exhaust?

Funny I should see this thread.

I had my silencer/ resonator/ muffler (whatever the hell!) removed today as well!

And by way, they are 2 cats.

There are 4 in total (on mine anyway).
2 right up close to the headers and then the 2 near the silencer/ resonator/.......

Sounds alot more angry now

But quiet when cruising, which is great.
Only sounds angry when under load.

Been cleaning the car since I got back, so I'll have to wait until my next drive to find out of there is any noticable increase in performance/ throttle response.

Very happy with what is a cheap and quick mod!
