CLK55 TRANSMISSION IN 2003 CLK500 ?

whatsup guys im a little confused here my car is in need of a transmission as some of you know and i havent had the time really to take care of it because of school and work and i figured let me save up the money and squeeze whatever is left in the current transmission. As far as i know the tranny for a clk500 is 722.633 correct me if im wrong and i came accross a 722.636 2005 c55 clk55 amg tranny and im getting a pretty good deal on the complete unit, my question, is it possible to do this swap the trannys and keep my current ecu and have the better stronger transmission? ..

Secondly i saw transmissions on ebay from s500 and e500 as well 722.633 but in the fitment chart they show its good for cl, s ,e, is that because the gearing is slightly diff or are they not aware that it fits our clks? any help would be appreciated guys thanks!

My gut would tell me you would be able to make the CLK55 tranny work. The other models w/ 500 engine have different gearing ratios. I dont know if thats easily changed or not. Ask the stealership they should be able to tell you what you want to know, you can go where you after that. Just my first thought.

EDIT: I just read your post again and noticed you already mentioned the the ratios.. My bad...My bosses 04 S500 feels nothing like my 500 interms of the gears.

BadDebt, your prob right my gut tells me the same thing because it still is the same 5 speed but its tuned by amg for faster gear changes, and to handle more power, i think as long as its from the same w209 body i think it should work, that aside i was thinking would it make the 500 quicker then it already is because the tranny shifts quicker or will the old ecu make it act like the standard 5 speed with slower shift points? because im not sure that i can use the 55 trannys ecu on my car because they are coded or something like that?

It seems like a direct bolt on but you cant hold me to my word. You might want to post this in CLK 55/63 forum maybe they have some ideas.

When it come to shift point, holding gears (at redline).......etc, the TCU is what control all that.

so Klinh i can technically put that tranny but because my tcu is from a 500 tranny it will shift like a 500 not a 55 regardless if i have a 55tranny or not because of my tcu

The diffrences between the 722.6 ??? are grear ratio changes.. Larger heavy car need more help of the line and so on..

Klinh is dead on the tranny dosent control shifting, shift points, lenght of gear hold any of that thats the tcu job.. basiclly all the 722.6 interchange except some 4x4 models and pre 2000 without tip shift ( but you can mod those to work )

If you also reset the adaptation data you probably wont even tell the diffrence in the shifting... if you go from larger car ( s/cl/sl) in to c/clk you will feel faster accel in the 1-2 or the 2-3 depending on the w/s settings

Hcetzneb, ohh i get it thanks for explaining it so basically it doesnt matter which 722.633 or 636 or whatever car it may be as long as it is a 722.6 series could be from an s/c/cl as long as i have my tcu and that transmission my tcu will make it act like my current transmission because thats what controls shift points and gears changes. So get any 722.6tranny and use current tcu and be happy basically ....
