side mirror fell off!
....just the glass, now hanging on by wires I guess (it's cold and raining here, so I just "McGivered" it with a couple of rubber bands for now). I'm guessing it was caused by hitting a pothole. I've searched and found some photos, but no instructions on how the glass attaches.

when they stole mine and i had to buy another one ($420) WOOOT glad the insurance paid for it though lol, i had to isntall it myself.
Very easy to do:
Connect all the wires in the back total of 3 if i remember right and just clip it to the moving plastic handle that's in your mirror. You will hear the clicking noises.
Test the mirror for movement and you are good to go.
Potholes XUX

I got it back on - I had seen a removal tip that said "lift and pull", so I pushed. On and down. It did fall off again so I must not have caught it right. Hard to line up working blindly.

Not 100% sure. But the mirror shell should slide off. See W203 forum for instructions and pics. Once that is done you can clip the mirror back on. See that little spring on top of the mirror on the back side. Take it off first before popping the mirror back on and then re-affix it. Its kinda like a safety.

I have seen videos for removing shell, but there's always a tab to press and release while pushing mirror back. 209 mirror folds in, so no access that I can see. Not same as 203.

not same: 203 (at least mine) hinges in, but doesn't fold. when pushing it inward, you can see the innards and access the tab.

209 folds in and is covered in back:

....any tab must be accessed from mirror side, and I've been probing around with a screwdriver with no luck. I saw this on an S Class forum:

....and I'm guessing it's the same. Also, if I wait till the mirror glass falls off again, the clip should be more visible (maybe Murphy's Law will therefore keep it from falling off again!) Can you see it in this pic I found on a UK 209 forum?

Actually, the more I look at the above pic, the less I think that housing "slides" off.....

hey where you able to put it back together and if yes how? I got my still intact but the left and right side rotor looks or feels loose... i can only move the mirror up and down... and the problem starts at higher speed... the mirrors move left to right and right to left or random... i cant barely see my side.. the top and down works fine... but not the left and right thingy...

sounds like you have a different issue than I did; my motor worked fine, just the glass fell off. I had read a removal tip that said "pull and lift up" so I just pushed on and down. It fell off again once but so far has stayed on. If it falls off again I may use these new 3M strips designed to hang picture frames. They're similar to VelCro.

The mirror glass is held in place with a retaining spring, which can be seen behind the glass if you use the mirror adjustment switches to tilt the mirror upward toward the rear. Use a screwdriver to unhook the spring, and the mirror should pop out still connected to the wiring.

Fell off again, and I only kinda remembered that it fell off before! Sure enough, I search and find my own thread...most of my photo links still good 2+ years later!!

I still don't get it. It's hard to believe that the glass would fall out after a door slam (which is how it happened today, but I can't figure out what's supposed to catch where....

I got it back on, but I'm not sure what caught where, and I didn't hear any "click."

Spring wire (item 2 in WIS diag) has that hoop in it which clips over a lug in the motorised plate. W203 mirror is quite different.

It looks that way. Your pic does not show whether you have another lug at TDC & the driven plate seems dislocated.
Then there is the issue of minor changes over the years and an auto dipping mirror on the drivers side with a plastic surround & a heated standard mirror on the passenger side.

Are you sure that the spring does not clip into that thing a 12 o clock on your driven plate? I can't see what it is. Pic is not distinct.
