Noise coming from Auto Tranmission only when in gear. (W209)
I am new to the Forum and recently bought a 2002 CLK 500 W209. This is my first thread and would appreciate any help.
There are 2 issues with the car:
1) There is a knocking noise coming from the passenger side dashboard (I am from the UK, therefore steering wheel is on the right hand side) which i think is the stepper motor for the A/C. It seems to be a common issue with the CLK. Can someone give me a link with pics and description of how difficult/easy it is to remove the dash???
2) This noise is difficult to describe but when the car is in D on the auto transmission, i hear a kind of scraping/whining noise from around the transmission area. When the car is in Neutral, i don't hear the noise. At idle the noise is low, but as you accelerate it gets louder.
I know issue 2 sounds vague but can anyone who may have expereinced this issue help me or point me in the right direction.
Also, love the lingo used in this forum. Stealerships, tranny( i think transmission)... lol

I think in Europe, the W209 cam out in Sept 02'. Mine is the W209 but the pre facelift (which happened in 2005 i think). Its looks like your CLK with the AMG body kit. (your rear lights look awesome by the way!!!)
2) This noise is difficult to describe but when the car is in D on the auto transmission, i hear a kind of scraping/whining noise from around the transmission area. When the car is in Neutral, i don't hear the noise. At idle the noise is low, but as you accelerate it gets louder.

This = prepare for an £4000 transmission swap out....mixing of the coolant into transmission oil.
get your trans oil tested for gycol contamination....ASAP.
something like manufacturing date before AUG 03 or stn for the defective valeo..

...Hopefully you get some help with your problems
