What is this?

Hey guys.

This is a picture of an E63 engine.

Can anyone tell me what the small, square, black box is that is sitting towards the back of the engine, between the intake channels.

I have noticed that this is not on all 63 engines.

Is this an air intake modification that they made to later 63 engines?

Cheers guys.

It the air intake sound resonator just like the exhaust/muffler resonator. Some you see it and some you don't just like the exhaust system, some car had it and some don't. Mercedes also has the same black box style on the old C32 S/C but the E55 S/C does not have it. Btw Rashman, have you remove your air box charcoal filter? You get much beter throttle response.

Hey bud.

I see. I was just wondering because this black box is not present on my 63 engine.

As for the charcoal filter, yeah, I remember reading something about removing it.
Forgive my ignorance, but where is this filter exactly?
I thought that the charcoal filter was an additional filter for the cabin air?

If I do remove this filter that you speak of, can it cause any damage to anything, or will it trigger any warning lights?

Hey buddy........you own an 63 AMG, I don't !! So why are you asking me? J/K......I haven't heard of anything problem after remove the filter. To access, you have to remove the engine air filter then you will see the charcoal filter. Pretty much lay on top of the engine air filter inside the air box housing.

LOL

Yeah, ok, ok.
Just thought that the knowledge of the Legendary Klinh might stretch to other AMG models, that's all. heehee

Thanks for the tip on the charcoal filter.
I never knew they were there!

I didn't even spot them when I've previously opened the air filter boxes!
Maybe mine doesn't have charcoal filters?

I'll have another peek later.

Cheers bud.

You probably don't even know if it there. Here's some good comments after remove the charcoal filter.

Cheers bud.

Ever helpful, as usual.
Good man.

Interesting read.

It seems that only the US models have charcoal filters, in order to pass certain requirements over there.

Thanks for shedding light on the subject.
