Talking The switch

Thanks for the detailed description of the limit switch. I haven't had a problem on my 07 for the year I've had it. last night I shoved a suitcase in the trunk and today I got the dreaded partition warning. No matter how man times I pull the partition down manually, it seems like the force of the limit switch pushes the partition catch just enough to keep it from closing, perhaps because of the age of the pistons. I cut a thin strip of duct tape, attached it to the flat surface of the switch and squeezed, pulled back manually, tightened the strip of tape to the back side of the switch housing and wrapped around. It pulled the switch about halfway back when it rebounded a little, but it seems to work. We'll see how long. Couldn;t find my cable ties but that and cotter pin seem like great ideas. Thank you all for providing information that saved me a lot of frustration

Thanks to you all!

I so appreciate all the great information and knowledge on this site. My girl “Lucy” had the same soft top opening / closing problem. It was 100% the switch on the left side of the partition in the trunk. I have “tricked” the switch with a little creative duct tape. The top works perfectly every time! My question is, will this cause any additional damage to the system / car until I have the opportunity to change out the hydraulic struts that position the trunk partition to press on the switch as designed?
Thnaks in advance, this site is a life saver. Drive Safe!

The only damage would be if you lower the top and the partition is not closed, or there is cargo protruding into the area where the top needs to fold into. You could damage the top or even break the rear glass.

2014 e350 cabriolet
I have a 2014 e350 cabriolet and the convertible top stopped working. The 4 windows roll down but then nothing. No message on the dash either. Is it worth manually opening and closing the top to maybe give it a reset?

My trunk cover broke and the window shade like cover came off too, so there is nothing left to pull forward. I read the trick with the switch here, but I can't find the switch. Can someone tell me where this exactly is and maybe post a picture. I have a 2002 clk320. Thanks

John, welcome to the forum! A MY2002 CLK is a W208, so you should post in that forum. Also, pleas update your forum user's profile to include your car details and location.
