Shift knob replaced

I picked up a GLK shift knob (part number 204-267-3310-9E38) from another member to replace my beat up one. Took ~15 to replace. The shaft was a bit shorter and the plastic locking was deferent but worked fine.

The boot that came with the new one had a base about twice as wide so I reused the original as it was in new like condition. It looked like the leather was glued to the rectangular base and the new one was much larger anyway being for the GLK.

As for the removal of all, just press the base on the edge on the passenger while lifting the drivers side and lift the boot over the knob exposing the plastic lock under the knob. Twist the lock counter clockwise and pull the lock down. That will expose the part holding the boots top to the knob, you have to pull that down along with the top of the boot. Once the boot and the knob are separated, pull the knob up off the shaft. It can be stock on a bit so use controlled force. In my case the hardest part was fitting the top of the original boot to the base of the new knob as the new knob had a smaller base in diameter and that exposed some compressed marks on the boot. had to push the leather a bit more in, to tuck more in to hide the marks. Looks good in the end.

Correct, the 2003 is a bit deferent I guess. Like for example they stock a huge rear vent blower motor inside the center isle storage compartment leaving maybe a space of 2"x6" for storage Still need to remove that crap so I can actually use it to store more then a couple pens

I also only have one cup holder, not a big deal until you have a passenger and buy some hot coffee. Had to explain that its a Mercedes and not a Ford and we don't get these types of features

when my passenger asked me why there was one cup holder, i told them that technically this is a german muscle/sports car so i would be too busy having the time of my life driving it vs needing a cup of coffee. lol i actually heard that somewhere...i think it was in the showroom and the sales associate told that to some customer. lol

but thanks for the info on removing the boot. looking to do that soon.

Looks good!

On another note, I have the same burlwood interior. Why is it that it comes out so light in the pics? Dunno if it's the sun or what. In your pics above the center looks lighter then the door.

The one installed with the mercedes star IS the new one

Its just the flash from the camera, I will be wrapping it all up in vinyl foil anyway. Just not sure yet if CF look or brushed aluminum.

On a related note I need to replace the knob and boot on my CLK with Keyless Go button on the shifter. How hard is that to replace? Expensive?

Guess its a personal preference. My old one had the leather rubbed off on the side and just looked old so replacing it was always on my mind when I was in the car. Now it no longer mothers me and I like the updated look. To me it looks more polished and higher end but I can see how the more simpler cleaner look would be preferable.

04+ C classes have C/S modes, and prefacelift W203s/209s have W/S mode, which is the same, just named differently.

do you guys have S/C/M modes?
