Chrome Trim on Vents
#26
Well I found this,
http://www.bare-metal.com/bare-metal-foil.html
Used on model cars and seems to be the exact thing used in real world trims. Makes me think to go visit a hobby shop and see if they have it locally but at the $6 price tag, I may just order it.
Hope this helps us looking for a solution.

mother f'er! I was reading this thread on my Blackberry while in the car and now I see that I too have one peeling! Where on parts.com are you seeing the vents? I see them HERE, #14, 15, and 16, but isn't that the whole vent, not just the "chrome" tab? I guess I was lucky, as mine was half-peeled, with the chrome tape hanging on:

I took some of my wife's clear nail polish and painted the plastic under the loosened "chrome", then stuck it back down.

A little bit over at one end was gone, so I put it in reversed, so that that part was nearest the door, and I can't see it that easily.

I will say that when squeezing it back in, the "chrome" tape that would have been on the bottom of that tab squeezed out, as I didn't paing that down, I guess.

Please tell me how you got the tabs off? I tried pulling them off but not able to and don't want to end up breaking one. I have the chrome tape and will do this tonight. Will try some before/after pics and post.
Thx

I used one of those tiny flat head screwdrivers, like for eyeglasses. Carefully pry it out. If you look at my top pic you can see the shape of the hole, and the bottom pic shows the shape of the tab. I had thought it would easily slide to one side or the other, but the shape precludes that; it must be pulled TOWARD you.

Well, i tried the "chrome" tape from Bare Metal and it turned out to be crap. It's not nearly as shinny as the chrome; looks like traditional aluminum paper foil used at home except much thinner and fragile and not easy to work with. It doesn't stick although it has a tape backing. So the results were garbage, when you touch the knob, the paper shifts or wrinkles ![Frown](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Will continue to look for other materials and try again.

Wow, just checked mine and the two vents in the middle lost lost their chrome completely!
Crappy quality given my car only has 39k miles and usually the vents are one of those items that you set and "forget about it."

You would think so wouldn't you? One of my tabs has a very slight lift to the chrome, others are okay. My C has black interior, I just painted the area that the chrome peeled off with black nail polish - looks great. Black and chrome are really easy to work with.

This picture shows them painted - so professional that you didn't notice?? ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I sanded them with 1000 grit sandpaper then sprayed them with flat black Krylon paint, it dries in two hours.

My center console handle peeled as well. I just used some of my black touch up paint. With a steady hand I just painted it using the little brush. I cleaned the border groove with the edge of a sheet of paper.
