curb rash

So coming out of the parking lot after lunch, I was about to make a right hand turn. Some lady came out of no where making a left hand turn into part of my lane so I had to move farther right than I wanted to avoid her hitting my car and curbed up the rear right wheel pretty bad. About 60% of the lip has been rashed. Is there anything out there that would decrease the appearance of the rash? I plan on refinishing these wheels in the winter, but was wondering if there was anything out there that would help decrease the appearance of the curb rash. Thanks

did you end up just refinishing them or did you just buy new wheels?

if the curb rash is dark, you can try getting some sand paper in different grits and sand a little off. i find that it removes the black looking stuff and at least blends a little better.

dont beat yourself up for it. happens to the best of us. you can just find a place to refinish.

yeah i know that it happens. But it pisses me off that I had very little control over it. Only if people knew how to drive...oh well. I am actually giving some thought now to refinish the entire wheel black and murder the car out with absolutely no chrome.

Damn that really blows. It happened to me with m first set of wheels.

My car was having a problem with the alarm going off randomly. I was into my eigth dream one morning around 5am when the banging on the door woke me up. It was Johnny Law letting me know my alarm was going off. I get to the car and the button to turn the alarm off wasn't working so I get in and turn it on but to no avail. I had to drive the car around for 15 minutes before it went off..Imagine a CLk rolling down the street at 5am with the alarm going nuts..lol I get back to my parking spot half asleep and with a banging headache only to scrape the $h!t out of my front right wheel against the curb. Bugged me so much I ended up buying a new one. Ohh and MB replaced the alarm with a brand new one at no charge

Don't feel bad Salty, we are all victims at one time or another. Look at it as opportunity opening the door for you to murder the car...lol

That is one sad motherf'ing story man! One reason I still have the OEM wheels on mine is that they came with some rash, and I can't go a month without adding more! The other day I was stuck in traffic and banged a hairpin 180 U-turn, like I always used to do in my C230K Coupe....probably about o a foot more turning radius on the CLK...OUCH! Then, 10 minutes later, backing out of the place I was such a hurry to get to, I scraped it again on a curb! At least it was the same wheel!

use a metal sander and grind the area down a bit - it'll look better

When I had my C's, we bent and cracked a number of wheels. A friend sent me to Rim Pro, saying they could "true" them. Well the first few had cracks so couldn't be trued, but they offered refinished replacements for $200 each (good as new to me). When I finally had one that COULD be trued, it was $99, and they removed the rash as well. I asked about removing the rash on my new ones, but they call that "refinishing" for $200! Maybe I should bend them first!

For $200 a wheel you could get some decent reps....

I agree, but the trouble was it was one wheel at a time! I hated those OEM wheels for their fragility but always chose to spend $200 to replace one rather than $800 or more to replace all. Till the end that is: I bought CLK wheels w/tires for $325 (16") for the C320 and wifey loved the ride. Kept 'em for snows later after selling C.
