Dual exhaust for 350 question

Looking into getting dual exhaust but because of the way the rear bumper has the indent for the single exhaust and no cut out on the other side, what's the best way to do this? Is it possible to just have them cut out a spot on the other side? Get a new bumper altogether?

A friend of mine got the same thing done and they just lowered both of his pipes so they'd clear the muffler without needing an indention, but I'm not too fond of the look.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Most exhaust shops will cut the bumper for you, but a body shop would do a much cleaner job.

The problem is the spare tire well. You would have to go around it. Either behind it or in between the well and the bumper. You could get a single/dual muffler on the left and wrap around the well to exit the right. You have the choice of either cutting the bumper on the right for the tip or getting the plastic piece from the 05 CLK that has the cut already. The piece is $150.

if you stick with the same exhaust, you will have to do what dynomite mentioned.

i would suggest going to a body shop to get it cut. but before that, find the muffler you will use and see if you need to cut the left side to widen it up. if not, tell the body shop to cut an identical hole on the right side.

if you go aftermarket exhaust, you can place the muffler in the back middle section and have two tips going towards your outlets. an example of this would be superbee's exhaust on the c class forum. just search his name and you will find pics. i think i posted them on an exhaust thread on here too.

Could you link me to this piece you're talking about? Either just a picture, or a site to buy it.

I have to look for the part #. I have it in my wish list on parts.com but it doesn't list the #. I will have to get back to you.

Okay thank you. I'm going to talk to some body shops in the area and I'll probably just have them cut the necessary hole in the bumper. What you were mentioning about having to reroute the piping because of the spare tire, I assume that wouldn't be a problem for an experienced muffler shop? Should be something that they can handle with little difficulty, right?

They should be able to handle it. They just have to have the ability to bend pipe. Being an experienced muffler shop they probably do.

He doesn't say what tips he uses but it is a Magnaflow muffler so they might be Magnaflow tips.

Since he's just running the second pipe off of the single muffler, there's not much of a performance change is there? It seems to be mainly for aesthetics?

Also, looked up the 209 885 4025 part number you posted on parts.com and it says it's a spoiler?

Yea your really not looking at any real performance gains with this mod. It's not true dual with two pipes running the whole way. Parts.com has it listed as a spoiler for lack of something to call it. This piece only fits the AMG rear bumper, if you have te regular 350 bumper it won't work.

Oh...Well, I've got the 350 bumper. Guess I'm out of luck.

For curiosity's sake, is it possible to run a second pipe and do true duals?

I really don't know, but I doubt it. The closest you might get is a y-pipe where your resonator is out to 2 mufflers. I plan on doing that soon, hopefully..lol

Alright, thanks for all your help. Looks like I won't be doing duals on this car. At least, not anytime soon. Can't afford to be buying a new bumper atm.
