CLK550 or SL500
So, my brother's gonna dump his 05 SL500 (Silver, AMG bumpers, tails, wheels, painted Brembo's, slammed, 19inch 5 spoke AMG's). The car is clean as hell and he's the first owner. It's got 93k on it. He's gonna give it to my mom and i'm thinking if i should give the CLK550 to my mom and ****** the SL? What would you guys do? My CLK550's got 50k, Mocha Black W/Mocha interior, KW V2's, 18's, HID's, Intake, and a dual exhaust sitting in my garadge, soon with LED's. What would you do? Dump the CLK for a higher mile SL or keep the CLK? Only thing i'll miss is the interior of the CLK and the power.

I'll take the SL over the Clk everytime. If you want the look, class, chicks....etc. There's no comparision when park the two car next to each other. The Clk to me is still just a C-lass which is at the bottom of Mercedes food chain. But then with the SL, depending on your age, people might think you're driving your dad's car.

lol, funny seeing someone bash their own car. I would keep the CLK.
I went to Starbucks a couple weeks ago with my friend who has an 05 SL500. My lil 320 received more attention.

Performance: 380hp in a lil CLK vs 300hp in a big SL.
Handling: Airmatic is cool becuase you can adjust it, but it handles like crap, specially compared to my KW V2's.
Reliability: it's actually closer to 90k (just checked) and i think i'll run into more problems with the SL.
Ehhh but the SL is so skeciiiI!
Yes but your lil 320 is hooked up!!! Now install the lights so i can see it!!

I got more look in my fixed up Civic at my son Jr. High school and Import Car Show then any of the Mercedes that I own. So it your pick, who do you prefer....milf or teen opinions. Always remember, just because you got more look, it doesn't mean good. When people look at your car, because it a "JOKE" or they really admired it. It really hard to tell the difference unless they tell you. It kindna like looking at all those AMG posers, we look but we trash talks at it.

I don't think I'm going to touch this one.

For me, it would depend on who's going to foot the bill for repairs for the SL500. I would take the SL500 ONLY if I didn't have to pay for the repairs for it, otherwise I'd keep the CLK550.

I agree on the look/class of the SL, after all it is MB's top car. Chicks (don't care, got a girl who actually prefers the CLK). I think the SL looks amazing, but the only downfall would be: Interior, Performance, Handling, Reliability. The interior of my car is hands down much better than the SL, specially since the SL's of 03-06 or 07 didn't really have black interior, it was a grayish interior. He's got gray seats, headliner with black dash. Also, there is no sunroof which kina sucks and the Navi is the old set up.

R230 SLs also have ABC (hydraulic) rather than Airmatic (pneumatic). ABC in sport mode is a pretty tight setup. The fastestlaps.com time for an SL550 around Hockenheim is 1:18.10, which is right around the same time as a CLK63 (1:18.40) and a CLK55 (1:18.20). Different drivers, different days so take the results with a grain of salt but the SL550 with ABC holds its own against the lighter W208 and W209 AMGs. Your KW V2 setup may well be tighter, of course.
Because of ABC, the SL genuinely does have a higher cost of maintenance, though.
For what it's worth....

Actually, the SL550 makes 380 HP. It's the older SL500 that made 300 HP. An SL550 would still be a little slower in straight-line acceleration than a CLK550 because the CLK is a few hundred pounds lighter.

If it's for your mother, why not take the SL for a couple of months and then trade back with her? See which each of you likes more and make it permanent. In most states, you can donate a car to family members without tax.
I, personally, would be in the SL

If ABC is the suspension he's already had them replaced, prior to that he had 2 problems with them. Airmatic is a B to deal with

Having a CLK350 and having driven my mom's SL500 for about...2 months or so before I got my own car, I've experienced both worlds. Personally, I'm a fiend for power, so I'd lean towards your 550 as it's more powerful. But the SL is a beast when it comes to looks; hands down MB's finest looking vehicle (not counting the SLR. /Drool). If you're okay with dropping the power of the 550 to the 500, I say go for the SL. It's just in a league of its own. Too bad it's not an SL550, wouldn't even be a question then lol.

I think the SL is one of the best looking cars out there and sure wouldn't mind one myself one day. That being said, for a 4 seater, the CLK is a great looking car, very sporty and in reality, far more versatile. The 550 is faster, but it's not always just about power. I guess it really depends on your situation pal.
