Shifter Base Plate

The base plate of my shifter comes off when I shift. I found that there are 4 clips underneath the base plate and one is broken.

This is the piece with the C/S switch. I like to search for this part but I don't know the proper for it. Please help.

You are in luck my friend I have an extra one. Is it the black piece with the C/S button alone or is the chrome trim broken also?

Apparently it is called Shifter Surround.

From the top, it looks OK. The C/S switch and the surrounding chrome are all OK.
But when I shift, this plate will move up. I checked and there are 4 clips which secure it in place. One of these clips is broken, the one furthest from the radio.

I think it's one single piece.

So it's the wood trim that surrounds the shifter?

Yes, it is indeed called the Shifter Surround.

It is the plate which supports the shifter. It has the C/S switch and also the display of P, R, N, D.

No wood inside the plate. It's black, with chrome around it.

Yes, on the left side of the plate is the C/S switch and "P-R-N-D". On the right side it's the actual shifter.

Ok, what I was asking in my first post is if its the switch that has a broken clip or is it the chrome trim? They are two separate pieces.

Nope, I just bought some used interior trim and the shifter and shifter surround came with it.

I was not aware it's indeed 2 pieces. Thanks for the clarfication.

The defective part is the chrome trim. Because one of the clip is broken (the one near the armrest), the plate lifts when I shift.

BTW. Dynomite05: We have the same car, 2004_CLK320,

I should have the tracking info in an hour or two. It's not too hard, you would have to take of the shift knob and boot though.

This I know. The plate comes up every time I shift now!

I am concerned about the shifter and the C/S switch.

The switch should be fine, the cables have a bit of slack on them. I will take some pics tomorrow of my center console. The only thing I have on it is the C/S switch and chrome trim...lol

Better than I thought. Had some problems to remove the lock on the shifter, it was stuck a bit. Also, to lift the shifter snob was not easy, I had to pull hard and I was concerned that I would break it.

I must say that these MB parts were made very well.
