HID Kit Install - Headlamp retaining clips question

I just acquired a MTEC HID Kit on the cheap and it didn't come with the "special" retaining clips for the bulb that MTEC usually sends when you order them on eBay. I emailed the seller of the MTEC Kit and he wants $20 for the two metal clips. Has anybody installed this type of kit using the stock clips? Do I just need to use a Dremel and shave them down? Do I even need the special clips? Whatever help/advice you can give would be a great help. Been lurking for a long time and know you guys know your stuff.

I wasn't aware Mtec needed clips. What model is your bulb?

Apparently the standard H7 clips on the Mercedes will not allow the HID kit bulbs to fit through them without grinding them down. That is what I have been reading from other people's installs. I just got the kit in the mail today and haven't really checked out the clips myself. MTEC emailed me to say that they do have special clips for the w209 that would work without modification, but $20 is ridiculous for 2 pieces of metal. I am wondering if anyone has any experience installing the HID kit on a w209 and if the stock clips require modification.

Here is a how to install guide: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w164...ed-2008-a.html

Look at picture 8 or so. He mentions that MTEC sent him the clip and had to do no modifications to get the bulb fitted.

Ahhh I see now. I would assume for a $300 kit, it should come with the clips. Maybe because you bought it "cheap" you didn't get them.

If you buy the regular MTEC kit that I have then there are no clips included. That is the kit I have. It's just the eBay listing for the w209 and other specific models that come with the "special" clips. I just don't want to drop $20 on clips if I dont need them. Anyone know the answer? Thanks.

Should I have left out the cheap part? That seems to be the topic of conversation now. I meant that I bought a very expensive kit that came with gold clips, but I melted those down to make some teef. I know you guys can be ball busters, but c'mon. Help a brother out.

You have an expensive hid kit for an expensive car. Pony up the $20 and make it a clean install.

Thanks for the link. I actually checked yours out before I ended up with the MTEC kit. I was able to find some $5 H7 adapters like yours and used a Dremel to shave down the sides. Everything is installed and working perfectly.

I hear ya, man. As stated above, I was able to find some H7 adapters like nyc has. A note to anyone planning on modifying the Mercedes H7 retaing clip: DON'T! Mercedes will not sell you another clip. They will sell you the whole assembly for $390 which is effing ridiculous. If you destroy the stock clip you will be junk yarding it, buying adapters like nyc has or paying Mercedes big money for a $1 piece of metal.
