W209 when shall we change tranny oil?

Mine was a really hard down shift from 2nd to first in situation where I was doing a slow creep to a stop like pulling into something but trying to slowly get a foot or two closer. I noticed it helped a lot

mine does both shift down and up, i heard that can be prevented if you ask dealer to update sofware.

mine was changed at 85k - the shop described it as not burned, but definitely used fluid. (i described this in previous thread). noticed smoother operation of trans and shifts were more gentle. my car *might* not be driven as hard as some of yours, though! :-) a worthwhile expenditure of $225. dealer was quoting $369 for same job. shop around.

Hi mate,
The 7G-Tronic gearbox needs to be drained in stages. The torque convertor also needs to be drained.
The car also has to be in the air and level.
It is not a neccessarily a straight-forward job to do, which is why your mechanic has probably recommended an MB dealer.

my mechanic told me you need a special machine that MB only has that put new fluid in with that machine which calculates the amount, because supposedly the speed is very very oil level sensitive.
