Mine was done at 65.000 miles or so.

I had a hydraulic compartment that went faulty and in order to replace it the fluids needed to be replaced.

trans fluid drain/replace is not on the original 209 maintenance schedule, however they now recommend every 40k - i did it, cost $225 at an indy mech. good results.

note that it is drain/replace fluid NOT flush. search for the recent thread.

I think the key thing is: have the fluid changed even if your w209 manual says it's lifetime fluid. I think every 40k miles is ideal, maybe a slight overkill but the cost of a drain and fill at an indie vs the cost of new/ rebuilt transmission makes it easy to swallow.

I have 41k miles on mine and need to get it done.
Dealers in this area want $400+, and yes, they all say replace it at 40k miles and never again. I think that's a bunch of crap, why the hell would you never change it again. Maybe cuz most people trade in, so they figure chances are you won't keep car long enough for a second tranny drain.

Hey guys.

As mentioned, MB never actually had the tranny fluid written in to their service schedules.

But it is now stated that it should be changed at 37,500 miles.

This is a definate figure as I had this confirmed to me by 2 MB dealers.

I also have 2 guys who work in their workshops who checked this again for me.

I had mine changed at around 9,000 miles...... because I am a freak and wanted fresh fluids when I had the rest of the fluids changed.

LOL!

I wouldn't have said that it's a "once only" change though.

For piece of mind, I would suggest having it changed when you can.

Tranny fluid is not that expensive and it's good to know that you have fresh fluids.

Just had mine done at 38,800 miles. My mechanic said before every 60k, which my dad thinks as well, but now the mechanic is saying every 30k. Not really sure...

I changed at 30 (new transmisison under Warranty), 100, and just recently at 140. Will probably do it again at 180.

I got mine done at 45 and it was a dig help. My car was shifting strange and when I did the flush my mechanic said it was about a quart low. After the tranny service it shifted a lot better. Same thing he recommended every 40k but you can get away with more. I don't know since I had it done but he said there's 8 quarts in it but when you get the service they drain and replace 4. Not too sure why
