You're talking about boring it out to a larger diameter, right?

A few of us with high reving LQ1's did something like this, but more extensive. We actually bored the TB out from (testing my memory here) 62 to 65mm, replace the butterfies and polished the hell out of it. The increased diameter flowed more air, leaned the a/f mixture out and made a few more HP. The posted link is pretty much just a 'clean up', no way that will gain you 20HP on your car, no way. On a E55? Maybe but I'm tending to doubt it unless I see a dyno chart. Blown engines have different characteristics than NA, no question, but 20HP?
The absolute proper way to go about it (and I believe you fit into this catagory seeing that you're chasing 12's) is to port & polish the heads, gasket match, valve grind, then do the same to the intake manifold & clean up the TB. Of course you'll need a custom tune afterwards as the car is going to need some additional fuel tossed at it to componsate for the increased airflow.

Let us know what % diff in a/f ratios you find.
