Here are some pictures of the left damaged side and the right side. Please look at it and see what you think.

NO LONGER ACTIVE
One thing I see - those "ears" on either side of the bottom of the hinges should be pointing toward the rear, i.e. rotate them toward you as you stand at the back of the vehicle with the trunk open.
