Paddle shift steering wheel on non AMG W209

Hi,

Has anyone tried to install a paddle shift steering wheel to a non AMG W209?
Is it possible to do it, will it work?
Any thought on how much it might cost to install it at the dealership?

/Mike

Ok thanks! I read somewhere, I think it was benzworld that somebody did the install for 199$. That seems little to cheap don't you think?

I'll talk to the local dealership tomorow for price quote.
I will get back with the price tomorrow if anyone is interested in how much it might cost.

They are working ones, but I'm probably not going to use them so much either. But it would be awsome to have working paddles.
I'm also getting them for the looks

What interior color do you have?

$199 is probably just the parts (paddles). Before doing this mods, one need to understand, if you your car came with the shifting buttons behind the steering, then this is an easy mods, almost like plug-n-play after you cut out the hole on the back side of the steering for the paddles to mount. But if you car does not have these feature on the steering, then it can only be done by professional like Steve from MLBenz. I love the mod but I would look stupid on the wood steering.

+1, Although I don't know if I agree with the wood grain steering wheel comment. It might not look that bad.

I agree but I dont have the wood steering wheel, mine is grey all leather
199$ was for the install, the steering wheel (all grey leather) with the paddles is around 550$.

My interior is Black. If i can find the part nr to order them i might wrap them in Red or smth.

I am going with a red CF interior theme soon and would love to have this. Just for looks not gonna bother with wiring and all that.

And as Klinh said Steve is the one who knows how to do all this. Though i remember he said model 05+ dont need any drillingor anything major to be done its mostly programing and an easy wire connection.

I checked on ebay there is nothing there. Might ask the dealer for a part nr and see what they charge VS parts.com

You could get a custom wheel with any combo through our sponsors here on the forum for less than that.

If you guys have the 05 w/the shifting buttons in the back ( look behind the steering wheel you will see it) buy the part and just like Klinh said its kinda plug n play see these pics below...I thought of doing this for along time ago but just didnt pull the trigger on this mod yet. Dont ask where i got these pics i dont remember lol somewhere in C55 forum I think . The C63 shift paddles will work if im not mistaken.

How do you manage to take that apart without your airbag deploying?

The airbag comes out as one piece. Just make sure the car is off and the key is out of the ignition.

Good pics Andy, I plan on doing this project in Spring next year, I'll post up a DIY thread unless someone has already beaten me to it (which would be good, I'll just follow them!).

I talked to the mercedes dealership today regarding the paddleshift steering wheel.
The mechanic I talked to, claimed to be an expert on W209.
He said that they never heard or had done an installation of this kind. So I never got a price quote.

But still, I bought a AMG paddleshift steeringwheel today just for looks:-)
Will post some pics when I recieve it.

.. and make sure that you DON'T turn on the ignition without first connecting the airbag harness, otherwise you will need to see the stealership.
