do cars really need a fuel filter? my car has never had one installed and the dealership has never mentioned anything to me to install it, and they've serviced it for most of the car's life. the benz has almost 100 thous km now...

I will get it done in MB dealership. Looks complicated...
Dragon_27: It is recommended to change the fuel filter every 100K KM.
Not sure of the positive effects of this fuel filter change. Maybe better mileage?

I drive the racism out of BadDebt. ;)
I pump Chevron 91 regularly. I figure it was time to change out my fuel filter when the ignition struggled a bit upon startup. Sometimes it would just crank over but no start.
We changed out most electrical parts that would cause a rough start...no dice; so our last resort was the fuel filter. We swapped it out and voila, starts like a dream.
Cheap preventative maintenance, aprox. 45min job.
When you remove your fuel filter, you will visually see how dirty the fuel filter is and you'll dump out dark coloured fuel.
