New MB owner-first post-first question
I just bought an '08 CLK 550 cab - 28K, P3, Storm Red and Stone interior. Love the car so far. Drove it 1,000 miles home with zero problems so that's a pretty good post-purchase test drive. Here's my question. The first owner had a Calibre K40 wireless radar detector installed. However, he appears to have installed a switch in the power source so he could turn it on and off without reaching for the remote. He located a cheap looking switch in the open space on the switch cluster that has the headlight, outside mirror, and headlamp washer switches. Looks cheap, so I'd like to return it to its original look. Does anybody know if that cover plate that holds all three swithes is sold separtely or do you have to buy all three switches as one unit? Seems odd you'd have to buy three switches if one goes bad, but I've seen stranger things. Thanks and glad to be here.

Welcome to the Forum! Congrats on your purchase, that color must look great. I have come across the whole unit on ebay. You could also get it through parts.com. Create an account and send the a message with your VIN letting them know what part you need. That will ensure that it's that correct factory part for your car. Here is a link to the eBay search if you're interested.

2006 Facelift CLK500 Cab-
Welcome!
Either:
A- Actually install a hard wired radar detector yourself and get a slightly larger(but nicer) looking switch and dremel/drill it out and re-install? This thread is actually making me think about getting a V1 or something and hard wiring it into the rearview mirror. I'd put the switch under the dash somewhere not visible though.
or
B- Ebay/parts websites, maybe even call around to a couple junkyards and see if they have a wrecked one, I doubt these switches are in high demand.
