keyless go exterior door handle problems

sometimes my car cannot recognize my key but its only my driver side door. il walk up to the car and pull the handle and nothing will happen.

I took apart the door handle to make sure the connection was good and there seems to be no connection problem.

I'm thinking I should replace the exterior door handle from parts.com but am trying to think what else could be causing this.

I don't want to buy a new door handle then realize later that it was something else and have a spare handle laying around.

I'm not sure if its the sensor or handle.

can anyone tell me if I buy the handle on parts.com is it only the handle or the sensor also?

on parts.com the part number is 21176011709040.

awesome thanks dynomite. I think this is like the eighth time you've helped me out. I appreciate it a lot.

do you think replacing the external parts would solve my problem or can you think of any other reason why this would be happening?

No prob. Honestly, I'm not sure if it will fix the problem. I'm waiting for my new copy of the WIS to come in so I can't look up that problem. Do you have a warranty, or and Indy shop you could pass by and speak to?

nah no warranty or independent shop I go to. my buddy had a similar problem and he had his fixed under warranty. he said they just replaced the door handle. I hope its as easy as that and not electrical problems

hey i have the same problem right now. the driver's doesn't sense the keyless entry, but the passenger side does. so i wanna know the same question, if i need a new door handle or if its the keyless go sensor module or something...

Ok, so I used a CLK63 to access the Keyless-go options. Looks like you the part number you have is the same except for the last 3 digits (color code). The code for keyless-go is 889. There are 2 parts, besides the locking mechanism itself, that are keyless-go specific and coded with 889. The handle and what they describe as 'bearing'. From the looks of the diagram, I don't see the sensor being separate from the handle. Not sure what the bearing is though.

from your picture, i know i need part 200 and part 250, as that's where the sensor is. the other parts I can reuse.

So it looks like the part number I gave you comes with both these parts?

edit: nevermind, i looked up the part number on parts.com for item 250 and it's a separate charge.

shucks.

I guess I'll order the door handle first and see if that'll fix it

For a specific part like that, it would be easier with a VIN. If possible, PM me the VIn and I will get it for you.

I only changed the drivers side handle (with button, not sensor with key hole).

I took apart my door handle several times before so it only took me 3 minutes to do it, but the first time it took me almost 45 minutes as it's quite tricky. if you try it, i can give you step by step instructions on how to make it easier and save you some time.

hey can you give me step by step instructions and also, the exact part number to the door handle? on parts.com, i'm not sure which part it is to order. i was at mb and they said its not the sensor, just replace the door handle for my problem because the passenger side still opens when it senses me...

you'll have to contact parts.com customer service in order to be put in contact with their mercedes parts distributor. i believe his name is joe. you'll have to give him the vin number of your car so he can loook up the part number for you.

so i'm 100% sure that this has fixed my problems as I haven't had any more problems with my driver side door not recognizing my key.

as for explaining how to replace it, i believe if you search, dynomite has posted it when i asked him a few months ago. let me know if you have any problems (especially with putting the handle back in. taking it off is SUPER easy and only takes a matter of a few minutes)

When this happens, is there a message on your cluster that says "key not detected"? What you describe has happened to me only twice, and I happened to notice this message on the dash when I tried to open the door. The last time, I took the key out of my pocket and then it worked. I need to experiment if it happens again, but it made me wonder if something else in my pocket was interfering with the signal, like my elevator key card.

Try to change your batteries, that should help. If a message comes up on your cluster, that means the handle is working.

I should have mentioned the batteries were brand new in my first post. Always a possibility of bad battteries I suppose. Anyway, I will experiment if it happens again and report back if I figure anything out.

hey after installing the new door handle, does it need to be reprogrammed or anything so it can sync in with our key fob? so once the car is locked and you wlk to it, and open the door, it will unlock, right? cause it senses the key remote?
