Help with brake light

Last Monday I was rear-ended, just a love tap, and it cracked the plastic cover on the bumper. After that the warning light came on to check the brake light bulb. I bought a new bulb #7528 and put it in. The dash is still telling me to check the bulb. The old (origional) didn't look burned out.
Any ideas?
Thanks and happy Friday!

I don't think the two incidents are related. Did you try to drive it around a bit after changing the bulb?

Put the new bulb in on Tuesday and have been driving ever since.
