CLK will not start!! HELP!

So this is my wife's car. She had an issue with it this morning where she was driving it and all of a sudden the car died and all the lights on the instrument panel came on. When she tried to turn the key you can hear it try to start the engine (click, click, click, click, etc) but the engine does not turn over. By the way, it is a 2006 CLK500

She managed to get it going by doing that several times this morning. I figured it was the batteries being low on the key (keyless go also) since the car had been reporting low battery on the key for a while now. She got home tonight after the car nearly stalled again on the road, I replaced the batteries and now the car will not start again.

Any ideas what is going on??

If the car just died while driving, sound like the crank position sensor. It a $20-$30 part and you can replace it yourself.

It did die while driving once this morning. She was able to make it back home (she told me it started acting up and she felt lack of power at higher speeds after she left work but she said she drove it during lunch and it functioned fine) and as of an hour ago I wasn't able to have the engine start. Do you think it is the crank position sensor? It sounded like a sensor issue to me as well when the wife told me.

The wife did mention that she had a check engine light after the car started when it died on her on the road in the AM.

where can I purchase this part from? Also, where can a buy a good code reader? Would the code reader for the CLK be the same as for my corvette or my SL55? I really need to buy one to have at the house.

Any idea where to get the best price on it and where to pickup a code reader? Also, will a code reader for this car work for my SL55 and Corvette?

but can someone tell me of a good code reader? Also, what is the best/cheapest place to pick up an OEM sensor online? Also, is the code reader required for this car an ODBII?

This is the brand I have used at the auto parts store in the past when a code was thrown on the ML I owned. There may be a cheap model that does the same thing. Just FYI

So I pulled the codes on the car and it gave me a code for the Crankshaft position sensor. I order it for about $50 and will be installing it next week.
