2003 CLK 500
Weird Starting Problem

Hey all,

I have an '03 CLK 500 (just over 70k), and every now and then when i attempt to start it, the engine just clicks over and over but never ignites. Eventually (usually after 3 or 4 minutes), the car turns on and runs fine, however the check engine light will be on....(car still runs fine with engine light on)

But then after turning the car on and off 2 or 3 times, the check engine light disappears and the car is back to normal.

The first time this happened it was rather low on gas, however the 2nd time it had over half a tank.

Does anyone know what the problem might be? And has it happened to anyone else?

Anything would help, Thanks!

Most auto part stores have them and will let you scan for free. At least Advanced Auto does.

I had the exact same problem with my 500 a while back, I would try and start it, click, nothing, after a few tries it would start. I ended up replacing the battery (I metered it and it was low, the previous owner replaced the original with a cheapo) and at found that the negative battery cable was very corroded. I cleaned it all up, went to start it - click... I ordered a new negative cable from MB, waitied for a week for it to come it, changed it out - started immediately and haven't had any problems since.

Hopefully you're problem is just as simple. Good luck.
