clk550 convertible noise/click when opening; searched cannot find the answer

Just bought 2007 clk550 deisgno convertible and when I am opening the top at the very last step it makes a loud click sound like something is out of place. It does fully open so I do not know if it just latches in or if its a problem. Searched the forum and cannot find the answer. Thank you.

Are you sure it's not the top cover just latching down and locking?

I am not sure as I do not know how its suppose to sound. Its a little loud and sound like a loud pop followed by a click sound. Can you please describe how the last step sounds. Thank you.

I can't say for certain since what you think is loud is normal to me, and what may be a pop could be a soft click to me...see where I'm going with this? Ideally, video with audio would let me say a definite yes or no whether this is normal.

But from what you're saying the pop is from the top cover latching and the click after is the panel locking into place. At least, that's how it is on my 208.

I agree with the other poster that it's hard to say if it is normal without hearning it, but I will say that the lock down step does make a bit more noise than I expected. If it works right I would guess it is fine. If you were expecting nearly silent operation, it is not that - it makes a noise now and then.

Thank you for all replies. Its much better now, after a few tries the noise is almost gone. I guess it was not used for a long time (winter) and needed some muscle flexing.

The car feels very heavy and there is a lot of body flex but it does jump once the gas pedal is on the floor. I guess it will take some getting use to.

I would take the car to the dealer and have them lube and inspect the top. Mine squeaked when closed due to dry seals and pivot joints. You don't want to neglect the top. Make sure you are also familiar with the emergency closing procedure as described in the manual. You should have 2 straps and a wrench in your tool kit for this.
