Fiberglass W209 63 AMG bumper

Whats up guys,

So I saw a CLK 63 AMG bumper on ebay for 429$
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/07-08...Q5fAccessories

I call the number and Danny asks me to come over. Since im only 20mins away I get in my cousins SUV thinking ill be coming home with a bumper and head toward flushing.

I get there and he tells me its made of fiberglass and costs 429$. The mesh grill + foglights are an extra 430$. Total 859$ and he was cool enough to not make me pay taxes.
He is receiving the bumper this afternoon so I have to go back in a few hours to pick it up. I told him I would pay upon coming back.

My question is: Should I be paying 430$ for a fiberglass bumper. I dnt mind putting down the cash but my cousin is telling me fiberglass will crack easily thus the reason I am posting this.

Any info is well appreciated.

BTW they had an SL parked outside with a full SL65AMG BS conversion kit and it looked absolutely stunning. Ill snap pictures of the car when I go back this evening and they even have a full CLK63 AMG BS conversion kit for 10k if any of you are interested.

I believe that's the bumper Advans had on his C55. I think you should be fine as far as the quality, just don't go running into things.

Youll be paying the bodyshop more for prep/fitment because its fglass but as long as the bumper is sized correctly youll be fine. Fglass is brittle and will crack easily if you hit something but thats not something I would ever worry about since im careful w/ my car. Post pix once installed

Alright thanks for the info guys.
I drive carefully and the car is always parked in a garage so I am not worried about other people bumping into me. If I lived in France I would be worried because they just dont give a damn about bumping into you especially while parking.
It wont be installed for a while as it has to be shipped to Switzerland and painted. Ill post pics as soon as the car goes through a photoshoot.

This is one of the first bumpers I checked before I bought my face-lifted AMG package.
I don't know about the fitment on this one(even though it says "perfect fit").
And keep in mind the import tax.
Looks great though.

That's alot of coin for not a huge diffrence. IMO.

*edit* don't get wrong it looks very nice though. I got a M5 replica bumper for my wife's 545i and it was $700 painted. It is a much more dramatic effect over the OEM basic bumper.

No import tax & I'm not too worried about fitment. A family friend owns a body shop in France not too far away and has already agreed to take care of all the work.

thats what im saying, the fiber glass is $429. You can get the oem for 600 more. Since you live in switzerland cant you just cross over to germany and get parts cheaper than we can? Or is the stealership a stealership no matter what country youre in

I looked for the bumper in Germany and it wasnt cheap at all. As a matter of fact I looked in numerous countries around Europe and the cheapest I could find was 600-700 euros. In the UK its close to 1700$ so I am glad with my purchase.
Ive already bought a dozen of aftermarket mods while in NY and spending +800$ for a bumper wouldve emptied my wallet. I still have to buy rims +4000$ and im done.

OK so I picked up the bumper. I initially planned to get the complete package with the mesh grills and fog lights but turns out the mesh grill was PLASTIC so I told him to take it all off.

So if anyone comes across a mesh grill that fits the 63AMG bumper, please let me know.

Unless they have changed the bumper style, I don't think it's a 63 bumper. From what I can recall it's a 550 bumper with the vents integrated.

Your comment scared me for a quick second but I checked, double & triple checked, its a 63.
Mind you the bumper I have is not the one from the picture. He didnt have anymore in stock so he had one made for me, took something like 6 to 8 hours.
I will post pictures of the bumper this evening or maybe tomorrow because it might be to dark outside by the time I get home.

In that case, I could get you the part numbers for the grilles and fogs if you want to order them from parts.com.

Here is the info for the grilles and fogs.

Left fog- $97.75
Right fog- $88.55

Center grille- $197.80
Outer grilles- $80.50 each

Clips- $2.53 each

This is a pic of the CLK63 fogs and outer grilles. I believe they are plastic also. I bought them for another member (mikata) and shipped them overseas.

Really appreciate it.

If the outer grills are plastic Id imagine the center grill is plastic as well.

Im gonna go ahead and order the fogs and clips until I find out for sure if the center grill is plastic or not.

No problem. I would contact member Mikata, he already purchased the center grille and will be able to tell you.

You're right my good man. The outer grills are plastic while the center grille is more of a steelish material with thin rubber coating
Dropped the car of at my mechanic today, it's supposedly planned to be done tomorrow after lunch Soon I'll finally have my AMG package on.
elijah: Attached some pics if they would help.

Anyone have the part number for the clips?
Can't I just use the clips off my 55?

No prob!
They are all plastic outer grilles. It's OEM, from factory.
